Tao Te Ching Chapter 25-10 Go away

Today's Tao

It's big, so it's said to go away. (Ch.25)

Since Tao is big, it spreads itself all over.

Here comes the trap!

Please don't think of Tao as a kind of energetic field.

The world is smaller than Tao.

That's why Lao Tzu wants to call it Big.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 13-5 Disgrace

Today's Tao

You regard disgrace as something bad. (Ch.13)

Judgement is one of the least wanted things in Taoism.

Simply, you don't need it.

Be like a baby.

A baby doesn't judge.

If you don't judge, "disgrace" doesn't exist.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 12-6 Belly

Today's Tao

That's why the sage does the belly but doesn't do the eye. (Ch.12)

You should concentrate on Hara, the belly.

Then, no colours, no sounds, no tastes can fool you.

No superficial thing can fool you.

About the art of the belly, Hara gei, check Tao by Matsumoto / Chapter 3 Hara gei the belly art.

It is interesting especially if you are a businessman in Japan.

Naoto Matsumoto adds:

Though it is useful, this is simply a physical technique like a Kyogen actor's laughter.

We must be aware of it.

Both of them have a certain result in terms of influencing your mind.

Nevertheless, we have to remember that both our body and mind are part of the hologram.

The desire to control our mind physically itself is part of it like the mountains, rivers, and lands, as Master Dogen says.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 11-7 Nothingness is working

Today's Tao

Thus, something can be useful because nothingness is working. (Ch.11)

"Nothingness" means Tao.

Tao is working behind all the material beings.

Nothingness is you. (True You are Tao.)

You project your body.

You project everything in your mind. (Even your mind itself.)

Nothingness is working because you are working.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 25-9 Big

Today's Tao

Or, let us force ourselves to name it Big. (Ch.25)

Instead of Tao, let's call it Big!

You can call it whatever you like.

In fact, that's what they have been doing all through the human history.

Some call it Buddha.

Some call it Zen.

Some just call it Higher Being.

Some call it Love.

Of course, you can call it Tao.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 16-4 Go back

Today's Tao

I see them go back again. (Ch.16)

Holograms are illusions.

Nevertheless, they are truly precious because they are Tao's manifestations.

Every time we receive Tao the fundamental energy through holograms, it goes back to the state before they were created.

The state is called Bumo misho izen in Zen Buddhism.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 25-7 Don't know the name

Today's Tao

I don't know the name of it. (Ch.25)

The word Tao can be misleading.

This Chinese word Tao is pronounced as "" in Japanese.

Do in Judo, Kendo, Aikido.

All of them mean Tao, which is "a way" in English.

Tao would be better off if it didn't have a name.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 25-5 Go around

Today's Tao

It goes around and never stops. (Ch.25)

"Goes around" indicates Yin Yang circle.

Yin and Yang are exactly like the shiny and shadowy sides of the moon.

They are not two different entities.

They are the names of the two parts of the one thing.

Metaphorically, Tao turns around like a prayer wheel in a Tibetan temple.

The world (=your hologram) is the prayer wheel.

Its objective is constant rotation.

Every time it turns around, it emits the fundamental energy Tao.

Then, Tao manifests itself through the living prayer wheel called the world (=your hologram).

That's why some Buddhists say the world is Buddha's prayer.

Of course, the prayer never stops.

Please visit Tao by Matsumoto / Chapter 25.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 14-5 You can't grasp Tao

Today's Tao

Even if you try to grasp it, you can't do it. (Ch.14)

Let's decode this.

It means:

Don't think Tao is tangible. It is too small to touch it.

Mata ashita. See you tomorrow.

Naoto Matsumoto says:

The expression "small" here is something rhetorical. Tao doesn't have space. In this sense, it is as small as nothing.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 13-4 Favour

Today's Tao

You regard favour as something good. (Ch.13)

Let's decode this.

It means:

You judge favour as something good.

But good and bad don't exist in the world of Tao.

Naoto Matsumoto adds:

There is an old Japanese proverb with a Taoist origin (from «Huainanzi 淮南子»).

It is Sai ou ga Uma 塞翁が馬 [Sa Ong Ji Ma 塞翁之馬], or «Old Sai's horse».

Sai 塞 signifies a fortress. Probably he lived near a fortress on a border.

One day, old Sai lost his horse.

His neighbours came and said:

"Mr. Sai, what a bad luck, we are sorry for you".

Then he replied:

"You never know. It may bring us a good fortune".

Months later, the horse came back with a fleet steed.

His neighbours came and said:

"You were right, Mr. Sai. It brought you a good fortune".

Then, old Sai replied:

"You never know. It may bring us a bad fortune".

Years later, his family had more fine horses.

His son liked riding them.

He fell off and broke his thigh.

His neighbours came and said:

"We are sorry for you. You were right, Mr. Sai. It brought you a bad fortune".

Then, old Sai replied:

"You never know. It may bring us a good fortune".

A year later, war broke out, but his son was not drafted to fight because of his broken leg.

Old Sai and his son survived the war.

When a Japanese uses the expression "Sai ou ga Uma", he means «Joy and sorrow are today and tomorrow».

Well, one should not judge any. Right?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 12-5 Coins

Today's Tao

The coins hard to get make man's behaviour bothered. (Ch.12)

Let's decode this.

If you are attached to material things, it is more difficult to acknowledge that the world is a hologram that you project in your mind.

Naoto Matsumoto adds:

"This is a rare item."

"This is a rare opportunity."

"This is a rare coin, Monsieur."

The word "rare" excites our desire to obtain the object, doesn't it?

Well, it is not a good idea.

I am not talking about moral, but Tao and Zen.

The "rare" object is just a part of the hologram you project.

If you are attached to material things, isn't it more difficult to acknowledge it?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 11-6 Room

Today's Tao

Thanks to this emptiness, the room is useful. (Ch.11)

The word "emptiness" in the oriental philosophies has been confusing many people for a long time.

"Emptiness" means the field of energy. It is Tao

"Room" means "your hologram".

Holograms exist thanks to Tao, the fundamental energy.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 25-4 Independence

Today's Tao

It's independent. It doesn't change. (Ch.25)

Tao creates your hologram (=the world), which includes your own self.

The explanation is supposed to end here, but you can say that firstly Tao creates your "self" and body, then in your brains you project the holographic images of the rest of the world.

Therefore, your hologram doesn't affect Tao.

It is independent of the world (=your hologram) though it manifests itself through the worldly beings.

Although Tao is called the fundamental energy, it doesn't change its form like other forms of energy.

All the material beings grow together. (Ch.16)

Today's Tao

When task is completed and work done, everyone says: "I just let it happen". (Ch.17)

Today's Tao

Let's decode this. It means...

Look around.

If you have many "yes" men around you, it is a visible sign that your company is out of order.

Naoto Matsumoto adds:

If you find yourself surrounded by yes-men, it is a very good time to ask yourself a question:

Tao Te Ching Chapter 25-3 No sounds

Today's Tao

No sounds. No forms. (Ch.25)

There is neither sound nor form in Tao.

Some readers may want to interpret Tao as a kind of field, where the transmission of energy takes place in a form of wave.

This idea will help you to abandon the concept that the world is concrete.

Nevertheless, it is not ideal to think of Tao this way because it may give you the idea that Tao has time and space.

Time and space belong to your hologram and Tao doesn't have them.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 14-4 The sound without a sound

Today's Tao

It's called the sound without a sound. (Ch.14)

Let's decode this.

Tao can manifest itself as a sound, but the sound exists only in your hologram.

Tao can manifest itself through the hologram, which means the world.

Naoto Matsumoto adds:

We have the famous koan of Hakuin 白隠 (a Japanese Zen Buddhist 1685 - 1768).

隻手声あり、その声を聞け [Sekishu koe ari, sono koe wo kike].

translation:

One hand has voices. Listen to the voices.

("Two hands clap and there is a sound. What is the sound of one hand?"---Wikipedia)

Hakuin used this koan to propagate his teachings. There is a conversation between Hakuin and Osan, an Japanese old woman and his disciple. (Ref: http://hk-kishi.web.infoseek.co.jp/kokoro-127.htm)

Hakuin: There are sounds and voices when both hands hit each other. What sounds and voices are there in one hand?

Osan: Instead of listening to the voice of Hakuin's one hand, I want to hit both hands and do business.

Hakuin: If you can do business by hitting both hands, you don't need to listen to the sound of the one hand.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 12-4 Riding and hunting

Today's Tao

Riding and hunting make man's mind go crazy. (Ch.12)

Let's decode this.

It means:

Don't let your hologram excite you unnecessarily.

Naoto Matsumoto adds:

In Zen, they often talk about detachment.

A great Chinese Zen master Rinzai [Linji] said:

"If you meet a buddha, kill the buddha...

"If you meet your parents, kill your parents…" (Rinzai-roku).

A buddha and parents are holograms, of course.

You must not be bothered by them.

Then, what does it mean by "kill"?

Discard and love.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 11-5 Doors & windows

Today's Tao

You cut out doors and windows, and you make a room. (Ch.11)

Let's decode this.

Without an empty space, we cannot use a room.

Naoto Matsumoto adds:

Osamu Kanaya, the author of «Roshi» 老子 (Lao Tzu) alludes to yaodongs 窰洞 in north China. They are dogouts carved out of a hill.

Carving out doors and windows is thus explained.

But aren't we really carving out our reality?

Carefully carved holograms are our world.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 25-2 Before heaven

Today's Tao

It is born before heaven and earth. (Ch.25)

It creates (or projects) your hologram, which includes your own self and the rest of the world.

If it is easier for you, you can interpret it as follows.

Your own brains, which are holograms, project in the mind the holographic images of the world (=heaven and earth) in order to enable you to comprehend it.

Time and space are concepts that your "mind" adds to restructure all the information into 3-dimensional moving and tangible images.

They are called holography.

Mata ashita. See you tomorrow.
