Tao Te Ching Chapter 36-6 Soft Tao
Today's Tao
The soft and weak beat the tough and strong. (Ch.36)
The soft beats the tough.
That was supposed to be the idea of Judo, the soft Tao.
The weak beats the strong.
A Japanese proverb says:
"To lose is to win / 負けるが勝ち [makeru ga kachi]".
The conventional wisdom may agree.
If you are tough, you might be inflexible.
If you are strong, you might be arrogant.
They are contrary to 玄牝 [gen pi], Dark Depth Female attitude.
Being soft and weak is much closer to Tao.

-«Hojoki» means "An account of the Ten Foot Square Hut". It is about the size of four Tatami mats and a half. In fact, the urban living condition in Japan has not changed very much. If you have Internet, some Japanese find it cozy enough to live in without too much hustle of tidy-up.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 29-7 Judo
Today's Tao
Some are strong. Some are weak. (Ch.29)
If you want to be strong, be weak.
Judo lost spirituality and has become a modern sport.
Judo lost politeness and has become a competition.
Judo lost its white Judo-gi costume and has become a merchandise.
In the old days, if you wanted to be tough in Judo, you needed to be soft.
Judo means soft Tao.
One day Judo will lose its name and become something else.

-This is the white Judo-gi costume I am talking about. Isn't it beautiful when you see two judoka in white on the green Tatami mats? In this sense, I share the same sort of esthetics with British gentlemen who fought in vain to keep their cricket uniforms white. It is simply refreshing when we see cricket players in white playing on the green grass. You never know one day the British might allow coloured shirts at Wimbledon. I just hope that the Japanese will not allow a shiny rainbow coloured Mawashi band on the waist of a naked Sumo Rikishi wrestler at Ryogoku, Tokyo.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 25-7 Don't know the name
Today's Tao
I don't know the name of it. (Ch.25)
The word Tao can be misleading.
This Chinese word Tao is pronounced as "Dô" in Japanese.
Do in Judo, Kendo, Aikido.
All of them mean Tao, which is "a way" in English.
Tao would be better off if it didn't have a name.
Mata ashita. See you tomorrow.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 1-1 Words are not good enough.
Today's Tao
If you can talk about Tao, that Tao is not Tao itself. (Ch.1)
Words are not good enough to talk about Tao, but what can we do if we want to talk about Tao?
I want to talk about Tao with you.
What does Tao mean to you?
You may say, "I have got nothing to do with Tao".
But aren't you interested in any sports whose name ends with "do".
"Do" is the Japanese pronunciation for Tao.
So, if you are a Judoka, you are practicing Tao without knowing it.
