Tao Te Ching Chapter 36-6 Soft Tao

Today's Tao

The soft and weak beat the tough and strong. (Ch.36)

The soft beats the tough.

That was supposed to be the idea of Judo, the soft Tao.

The weak beats the strong.

A Japanese proverb says:

"To lose is to win / 負けるが勝ち [makeru ga kachi]".

The conventional wisdom may agree.

If you are tough, you might be inflexible.

If you are strong, you might be arrogant.

They are contrary to 玄牝 [gen pi], Dark Depth Female attitude.

Being soft and weak is much closer to Tao.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 36-5 Mini enlightenment

Today's Tao

This is called minute enlightenment. (Ch.36)

If you give more, you can take more.

It is wise, but it is just minute, mini, small enlightenment.

It is not the true Satori.

Of course, you are free to use the Dark Depth Female technique for your benefit.

But, doesn't it mean that you are not happy about what it is right here right now?

Eh, eh, you are refusing to accept your world as it is.

Aren't you fighting against your own hologram?

The mini enlightenment is fine as your first step to transform it, but let's accept all without any resistance.

That's the big, gigantic Satori.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 36-4 Give = Take

Today's Tao

If you want to take something, you must give it for a while. (Ch.36)

You give something to someone.

When you look at this act from the other person's standpoint, he is taking something.

Please remember you = non-you.

So, give = take.

If you want to take more, give more.

We have an interesting Japanese saying:

"When the wind blows, a cooper gains".

This is telling us about a mystic chain reaction taking place in your hologram.

The more you doubt the chain reaction, the more resistance you create in the hologram.

Therefore, the chain of the reactions will be longer.

Skeptics have to wait long.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 36-3 Decline = Prosperity

Today's Tao

If you want to make something go down, you must have it flourish for a while. (Ch.36)

Decline is prosperity.

Up = Down

They are the same thing.

Those two opposing elements are exactly like both sides of a coin.

It is like favour and disgrace, which we have discussed in Chapter 13.

Ups and downs exist in order to stimulate you.

You accept ups with joy and emit more of the fundamental energy Tao.

You accept downs, saying:

"Thank you, my dear hard time. I know why you are here. You are asking me to send more love".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 36-2 Weak = Strong

Today's Tao

If you want to weaken something, you must strengthen it for a while. (Ch.36)

Weak is strong. Strong is weak.

All the masters say we have to stop judging.

Some wonder why.

Please look at this picture.

This is weak, and that is strong.

We think that weakness leads to strength and vice versa.

This cycle helps us understand the relation between a hologram and Tao.

The hologram stimulates Tao, and Tao creates the hologram.

Eventually, we come to realize that this cycle is one.

Therefore, no judging.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 36-1 Stretch = Shrink

Today's Tao

If you want to shrink something, you must stretch it for a while. (Ch.36)

Let's think the other way round.

Don't concentrate on something if you really want to achieve it.

With Reverse Thinking, you can go back to the state before things are projected in your hologram.

In Zen Buddhism, the state is called Bumo misho izen 父母未生以前.

In this neutral state, your desire meets the hologram.

Stretch something, and you will see it shrinking.

This is Dark Depth Female 玄牝 [gen pi / gen pin] approach.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 35-8 Inexhaustible Tao

Today's Tao

Even if you use Tao, you can't exhaust it. (Ch.35)

Probably, this is one of the most encouraging sentences in Tao Te Ching.

Once you accept that so-called "Self" is just a concept,

Once you become free from cause and effect,

You are eternal.

Tao is unlimited.

So are you.

Tao is the inexhaustible fountain of energy.

All you have to do is to keep emitting and receiving the energy.

The rest?

It is not worth worrying about.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 35-7 Inaudible Tao

Today's Tao

Even if you try to hear Tao, you can't hear it. (Ch.35)

You cannot hear Tao. It is not sound waves.

Some might want to think that Tao is a sort of field where the interactions of waves take place.

The idea is seductive, but I find it a trap.

If you mix Tao with the idea of an objective space, surely you will get confused sooner or later.

The famous three monkeys at Toshogu temple in Nikko, Japan, know a little better.

"See nothing. Say nothing. Hear nothing."

It is not only about something evil.

In Japanese, we say that the monkeys of wisdom see, say, or hear nothing at all.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 35-6 Invisible Tao

Today's Tao

Even if you try to see Tao, you can't see it. (Ch.35)

You cannot see Tao.

All what you see is the manifestation of Tao.

Master Dogen says:

"If one emits Truth and goes back to the source, the false emptiness of ten directions will emit Truth and go back to the source."

一人発真帰源、十方虚空、発真帰源

(Tenborin 転法輪, «Shobogenzo»)

It means:

"When one emits Love the fundamental energy (=Tao) and goes back to Tao, his hologram will emit Love and go back to Tao, too".

Every hologram can be Tao the nothingness.

Love = Tao = Buddha

Tao Te Ching Chapter 35-5 Tasteless

Today's Tao

Expressed "Tao" is plain and has no taste. (Ch.35)

We try hard to explain Tao, but words are not good enough.

I just wonder why.

Probably Tao and its function are too simple.

And people might say:

"C'mon! It cannot be that simple."

They may prefer some complicated jargons to the simple way to express Tao.

They find it tasteless.

Nevertheless, it has the taste called «no taste».

It is not exactly the same as «tasteless».

Tao Te Ching Chapter 35-4 Music & Food

Today's Tao

Music and food make the passing traveller stop. (Ch.35)

We are all passing travelers in this world of holograms.

When we hear beautiful music, we stop.

When we smell the good odor of some food, we stop.

Like other holograms, music and food exist to stimulate us to emit more fundamental energy Tao.

Our destination is not the end of the life.

It is each act of accepting something and loving someone.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 35-3 Big's omnipresence

Today's Tao

It's peaceful, calm, and Big. (Ch.35)

A: "Master Bonbon, what does Tao look like?"

B: "Peace, brother."

A: "Eh, peace, Master Bonbon"

B: "Be calm, and you will see it."

A: "Be calm. I've gotta be calm. Then, I can see Tao. I will see it…. I can't see it. Oh, my god! I cannot see it!"

Not too bad. Not too bad, Master Bonbon, although we will never see Tao.

Or, I should say we are able to see Tao everywhere.

It is omnipresent.

Tao's sole objective is the creation and recreation of itself.

The rest is not important at all.

Today's Tao

What's the difference between good and harm?

None.

Judgement exists only in your mind.

Whether you think it is harmful or not, Tao keeps on functioning.

It keeps on recreating itself.

Whether you like the toppings or not, they don't stop your ice cream from melting.

Today's Tao

Grasp Big's image, and the world under the sky will go. (Ch.35)

"Big" means Tao.

Lao Tzu is asking you to picture the image of Tao.

It is a nasty task because it is not possible.

The least harmful answer might be what you see in front of you, the world.

Let's call your hologram Tao.

What!

Hologram = Tao?

Yes. Hologram = Tao.

It is a sheer contradiction, but, when you really accept it, your spiritual quest will end and the world of the holograms will go around.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 34-7 Achieve Big

Today's Tao

Therefore, the wise can achieve this Big because he never tries to be Big. Thus, he can achieve this Big. (Ch.34)

You are always one with Tao.

So, why do you try to be one with Tao?

You will never achieve Satori if you wish to do so.

Because, by wishing so, you are denying that you are already in the state of Satori.

That's why Lao Tzu asks us to do nothing.

Minimize your resistance.

Enjoy all the moments of the transformation in your hologram.

Then, you can remember that you are Tao.

You have already achieved the Big.

You've got nothing to prove to anybody.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 34-6 Big's chaos

Today's Tao

All go back to Tao, but it doesn't try to be their master, so we can call it Big. (Ch.34)

"Everything" in the world is a hologram.

It comes out of Tao in order to stimulate you to emit more of the fundamental energy.

When the hologram has accomplished its task as a catalyst, it goes back to Tao.

In Tao, everything is in the state before it has a form, which is called Bumo misho izen 父母未生以前 in Zen Buddhism.

It is chaos without time or space. Time and space are parameters that only exist in our mind, our hologram.

Tao doesn't control holograms. It simply includes all. It is the origin of everything.

Tao is big, isn't it? You are big, too, because true You are Tao.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 34-5 Small

Today's Tao

Tao never has any desire, so we can name it Small. (Ch.34)

Tao doesn't think.

Tao has neither intention nor desire.

Tao is not destiny that controls your life.

It is just neutral energy.

Your own Self uses this energy to project the hologram (=the world).

In other words, your own Self creates the destiny.

Tao doesn't have the least control or influence over anything.

Tao is small, isn't it?

Tao is too small to punish you or give you a bad karma.

We are safe.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 34-4 Love = Tao

Today's Tao

Tao loves and raises everything, but doesn't try to be its master. (Ch.34)

Love is Tao. Love and Tao are two names for the same energy.

It creates itself constantly.

"Everything" in the world is a hologram and catalyst.

Tao / Love energy "raises" it to stimulate itself for its constant recreation.

This is the reincarnation.

Tao doesn't control any. It is just the source.

Love doesn't control any. We just emit Love.

You don't try to be a master because true You are Love itself, and Tao itself.

Tao = Love = true You

Reincarnation = the cycle of Yin and Yang = Prayer wheel

Today's Tao

Tao accomplishes its tasks and has no name. (Ch.34)

Tao's task is to exist.

To do so, it needs the constant recreation of itself.

Holograms stimulate Tao, and it creates them.

Every time you accept and love your hologram, you recreate Tao because everyone of you is Tao.

Joe, you are Tao.

Jane, you are Tao, too.

Today's Tao

Thanks to Tao, everything appears. It doesn't exclude anything. (Ch.34)

Tao does not exclude anything.

Then, why do we want to exclude someone or something?

Everything is one.

Everything is one hologram.

That's why we must not judge any.

We must not split it.

Accept all as it is.

It is an important "act" to accept this whole manifestation of Tao in order to circulate the energy.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 34-1 Flooded water

Today's Tao

Big Tao is like flooded water, going left and right, and all over. (Ch.34)

Tao is omnipresent.

When we say this, what kind of image do you picture?

Is it as if everything is like an onion and you find Tao when you peel it till you reach its core?

If so, it is about time you changed your idea about the fundamental energy Tao.

Tao is bigger than objects as if flooded water or a tsunami sucks in everything.

Tao (=true You) ⊃ self (=so-called "you") + objects (="non-you")

self (=so-called "you") + objects (="non-you") = hologram

Self projects objects. Objects define self.

self = objects = hologram = prayers = manifestation of Tao

Naoto Matsumoto adds:

Please see Daisetz Suzuki's «Manual of Zen Buddhism» (IV. From the Chinese Zen Masters, 2. The Third Patriarch on "Believing in Mind"). Suzuki writes:

The Mind = the Way = the One = Emptiness

Tao Te Ching Chapter 33-8 Live after life

Today's Tao

Living after his life is a long life. (Ch.33)

What we call "life" is part of a hologram.

What we call "self" is part of a hologram, too.

Tao projects one hologram after another every moment.

Watch out! One's life is not one hologram.

It is his interpretation of a voluminous set of holograms.

It is like a pack of playing cards.

Then, we call the pack Life or Self.

Tao has an unlimited supply of those cards called holograms.

Every moment is an after-life.

We are reincarnating ourselves every moment.

Isn't it a long life?

Not losing this place is eternal. (Ch.33)

B: "Yes, indeed."

A: "But, Master Bonbon, I am losing my Satori, I suppose. One day, I'm gonna lose all of my Satori. Please help me."

B: "Donate all of your money to our temple, and you will be saved."

"This place" means Tao.

But you are Tao. How can you lose it! So, you are eternal.

You are constantly in the state of Satori.

You sometimes forget the fact and get confused. That's all.

B: "Learn to be satisfied."

A: "Yes, Master Bonbon, I will learn to be satisfied. Be satisfied. Satisfied... I can't do it. I can't do it. It is too difficult."

No, it isn't. It is easy.

Your outside world is just a catalyst.

It exists only to stimulate you.

What's its objective?

You don't have to achieve anything.

All you have to do is to accept and emit again the fundamental energy by thanking all, for example.

When we are not satisfied, let's say:

"Thank you, my frustration".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 33-4 Defeat Self

Today's Tao

Defeating himself is strong. (Ch.33)

Is your own self your worst enemy?

You don't really want to accept who you are?

Even if it is so, please don't blame yourself.

Just ask yourself who you are really.

Your own self, body and mind, is not really true You.

It is part of your hologram.

It's just an extended part of others.

Let's make it clear that your own self is not the same as true You, which is Tao.

Then, let's love ourselves more because they are the manifestations of Tao, which is true You.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 33-3 Defeat people

Today's Tao

Defeating people is powerful. (Ch.33)

We are the champions.

We are the champions.

We can beat anyone!

Wait a minute.

Who are you fighting against?

Against yourself?

Well, it is a better answer than "defeating others".

"People" means "holograms".

If you are fighting against your hologram, it is useless.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 33-2 Learn Self

Today's Tao

Knowing himself is enlightenment. (Ch.33)

A man of wisdom, which we discussed yesterday (☞Learn people 33-1), knows that the people and the world is part of his hologram.

He still distinguishes his own self from the rest of the world.

Forget this discrimination.

This is the second step.

Your own self is part of the hologram like the rest of the world.

Other people and objects are the extended part of your own self.

Likewise, your own self is the extended part of the others.

Both exist to be accepted by true You the Tao.

If you know it, you know you are in the state of Satori the enlightenment.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 33-1 Learn people

Today's Tao

Knowing people is wisdom. (Ch.33)

A man of wisdom knows that the world is his hologram.

People in front of him are part of the hologram. He knows it.

But, who is the one that projects the hologram?

Well, the answer has to be you. Nobody else.

This is the first step in understanding Zen and Tao.

You are the one who projects the world.

Then, who are you?

The next line will answers this question.
