«My Koan Horoscope»
(available in Taoísmo en Español)
2. Dull the sharpness. / ¡Desafile lo afilado! (Ch. 56 / Little luck)
3. Good tying doesn't need either strings nor cords, but no one can untie it. / Atar bien no necesita ni cuerdas ni sogas, pero nadie lo puede desatar. (Ch.27 / Good luck)
«Interpretation»
Little luck - Little luck - Good luck. Do you wonder why you have to mimic the strange oriental gestures that are so difficult to copy? Do you wonder why you have to accept all the strict rules in your spiritual discipline in order to imitate something that has nothing to do with your own culture? Do you wonder why you have to listen to your Zen teachers who cannot speak Japanese while politely accepting their excuses that all the important teachings have been translated into English and Spanish? Do you wonder why they have the right to order you to do as they want you to do, saying: "If you cannot do as we do, you are not good enough to be a «chosen» disciple. Go somewhere else and get lost."? Please learn Japanese. It is the easiest solution. If you can read Zen Master Dogen's «Shobogenzo» in Japanese, you can easily say how ridiculous some translations of his teachings sound. Let's see the title of the book. Although we have plenty of fancy and incomprehensible translations, the title in Japanese clearly tells us that the right teachings (=manifestation) are your hologram (=eye storage). In other words, your world is the teachings and the answers at the same time. Please don't waste your life looking for an exotic black magic. Start reading the original. Once you finish reading Zen Master Dogen's true words, of course, there will be nothing wrong with squatting a little. As we have discussed already, even at the moment of Satori, you feel something is missing. More precisely, you are constantly living Satori, so you often feel something is missing. Dull your appetite of exoticism. And remember Tao has already installed invisible strings and cords to embrace you through your occidental and materialistic world.
Please try Koan Horoscope (although it is in Spanish).

I'm not understanding the "big's fear" concept that well. Can you explain it more? is it a feeling? or is it when some one expects the "enlightenment" or the "tao" to be something more magical/greater than it is?
It is the former. You may have seen this, but for the reference to other readers I quote Zen Master Dogen:
"When the manifestation fills up the body and mind mechanism, it feels that something is missing somehow". (Genjokoan, «Shobogenzo»)
Please see 72-1 Big's fear (http://taotechingdecoded.com/71to81/7201.html#G+_button)
Besides, please permit me to point out that the latter is quite a dangerous idea. This is a typical trap to the western practitioners of Taoism or Zen Buddhism. Enlightenment is not some state you will reach after mortification or long years' practice. Satori/Enlightenment is something you are living right now. Tao is not a oriental magical power. Tao is true You, which some people call Love. Be careful. Thank you for your comment. I send you Amida Buddha's Love so that you will not fall into these traps. Naoto Matsumoto
