Tao Te Ching Chapter 65-9 Perfect integration

Today's Tao

After that, you will reach Tao's perfect integration. (Ch.65)

Let's review Tao's perfect integration, or Big Natural Flow 大順 [tai jun], step by step.

1. You abandon analysis and intelligence.

2. You accept all, that is, all of your hologram while emitting the fundamental energy Tao (=Love).

3. The hologram finishes its role as a catalyst.

4. The hologram, including your own self and other beings, "return" to Tao and gets "re-integrated".

5. Your own self doesn't exist any more. (You remember that your own self does not exist as an independent entity from the beginning.)

This is "your" perfect integration with Tao.

In other words, you have attained Dark Depth.

It is Dark Depth Attainment 玄徳 [gen toku].

Attention!

The moment a phase finishes, another one begins.

There is no end.

Besides, time doesn't exist in Tao.

The multiple phases take place simultaneously.

Then, what can you do really?

Don't worry.

That's why they say: "Do nothing".

Just remember that you are totally integrated with Tao all the time.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 65-8 Return to Tao

Today's Tao

You return to Tao with things. (Ch.65)

There are two key functions here.

1. "Return".

The word indicates the energy cycle.

This cycle is Tao, therefore, true You.

Everything returns to Tao.

This is Big Natural Flow, that is to say, Tao's perfect integration 大順 [taijun]. (☞See Chuang Tzu's teachings 42-8)

2. "With things".

The word "things" suggests a hologram.

The key is the preposition "with".

This implies a hologram's function as a catalyst.

Your mind and body are part of your hologram along with mountains, rivers, flowers, and stars, in short, with all other elements of what you see (and you cannot see).

All of them return to the neutral state of Tao (=the state before your hologram is projected, =Bumo misho izen).

What we call "one life" is the emission and return of a hologram.

But, remember there is no time in Tao.

The moment something begins, it ends.

The moment something ends, it begins.

No life, no end of life.

不生不滅 [fusho fumetsu].

☞There was a band called "Japan". There is a band called "Tokio Hotel". A few decades ago, it seemed that Japan had abandoned being "Japan" and was transforming all its territory into "Tokyo". All the provincial areas wanted to be as sophisticated as Tokyo, and the country was on the verge of a successful transition from "lost Japan" to "Greater Tokyo". Old soldiers did not disappear easily, and now it seems that the pendulum has changed its direction completely. The fastest aging industrialized nation is creating a bigger and bigger mass of post-comsumers. The younger Japanese haven't got cash to spend for sure, but they are still happy because spending money is no longer "sexy" there.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 65-7 Miracle Attainment

Today's Tao

Dark Depth Attainment is deep and far! (Ch.65)

Dark Depth Attainment is everyday life.

It is nothing magical.

That's exactly why it is deep and far.

Dark Depth, which is Tao, reaches the deepest bottom, the farthest place, and everywhere.

Every moment of life is a miracle.

Your hologram is the miracle.

Zen Master Dogen would say:

"If it is not a painted rice-cake, you cannot eat it."

(☞See Painted rice-cake / Empty granary 53-5 A painted rice-cake: 画餅 [gabyo / gabei])

If it is not a miracle, we cannot eat it.

Eating food is a miracle.

Going to the bathroom is a miracle.

Your body is a hologram and miracle.

It is the closest manifestation of Buddha's love.

That's why Dogen insists on keeping our bodies clean. (Senjo 洗浄 and Senmen 洗面, «Shobogenzo»)

☞Masaru Emoto is an advocated of water's healing power. Water is a miracle, of course, because everything in our life is a miracle. Everything is projected in our hologram. Certainly, all the miracles are projected in our mind. If you need a particular help from water's memory, don't ignore Emoto's works.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 65-6 Miracle rule

Today's Tao

Knowing these rules is called Dark Depth Attainment. (Ch.65)

A: "Master Bonbon, I wanna know the rules of magic Tao. 'Dark Deep Attachment', you call?"

B: "Dark Depth Attainment, idiot! Gentoku the Dark Depth Attainment! This oriental mystic, magical, enigmatic power rules the world."

Master Bonbon, stop pretending to be an exotic mystic. You are fooling yourself.

Besides, Dark Depth Attainment is not the attainment of a magical power.

Or rather, everyday life is a miracle if you are looking for one.

Zen Master Dogen expresses it as:

"Miracle is the tea and rice of a Buddhist".

神通は仏家の茶飯なり

(Jinzu 神通, «Shobogenzo»)

Everything that takes place in your hologram is a miracle.

Therefore, all the stories about miracle are true because you are the one who projects them.

Forget your intelligence.

Then, you will see that every moment is a miracle.

This is the rule of miracle.

☞We have two famous artists called "Banana" in Japan. One is the author of «Kitchen»: Banana Yoshimoto. The other is a great Haiku poet who supposedly had a Ninja-like mission for the Shogun government while traveling the northern independent fiefdoms in Japan: Matsuo, Basho. His first name "Basho" means a banana plant in Japanese. He is the author of «The Narrow Road to the Deep North / Oku no Hoso Michi». The book certainly inspired Edward Bond, and he wrote the play "Narrow Road to the Deep North".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 65-5 Rules of Tao

Today's Tao

Both of them are rules. (Ch.65)

Don't try to control your hologram, which is what you call "the world".

Don't control it especially by intelligence.

It is the rule to follow if you want to be one with Tao.

But wait a minute!

True You are Tao.

You are one with Tao from the beginning.

If so, you don't have to make a particular effort to follow the rule.

You are following it.

You are not using intelligence.

You are not trying to control your hologram.

That's it. That's the point.

No matter how much you think otherwise, you have neither intelligence nor desire of control.

Don't worry.

You are perfectly integrated with Tao.

So, do nothing.

Just accept your hologram.

☞Is it more difficult to talk about the way of Samurai when a warrior is no longer needed? Read «Hagakure» along with «Yukio Mishima on Hagakure». Both were written when arms were more or less considered a hindrance. The original «Hagakure» about 1716. More than 100 years had passed after the period of civil wars in Japan ended. Yukio Mishima narrowly "escaped" the draft just before the end of World War 2 because of some health reasons. He published «Hagakure Nyumon (The introduction to Hagakure)» in 1967 in Japan. «Sun and Steel» in 1968. More than twenty years had passed. It was just twelve years before the release of Nintendo's Game Watch, the predecessor of their DS.
☞The English translation of «Hagakure Nyumo» was published under the title«Yukio Mishima on Hagakure: The Samurai Ethic and Modern Japan» or «The Way of Samurai».

Tao Te Ching Chapter 65-4 Not by intelligence

Today's Tao

Not governing a country by intelligence does it good. (Ch.65)

"Be stupid!"

"Don't be intelligent!"

That's what Lao Tzu is saying.

If you prefer less vulgar expressions, you can say:

"Be like dust." (☞See Kanshiketsu / Like dust 56-7)

and

"Be like water". (☞See Tao Te Ching Chapter 8 Be like water)

Without intelligence, or without material wealth, it is easier to regard the world as a catalyst.

While someone is praising you by saying "you are intelligent" or if your own self is convinced that you are smarter than others, it is difficult to accept that the Self does not belong to you personally.

That's why intelligence is a hindrance.

Intelligence doesn't exist.

It is an interpretation of some information.

Neither does your own self.

It is a name for a "small" part of your hologram.

☞I don't know if it is the same with you. But when a Japanese person hear the expressions like "Kita e iku 北へ行く/ going for the north" and "Kita no kuni 北の国 / a northern country", they provoke a particular emotion in him. Surely the northern parts of Japan have never been like Tokyo or Kyoto, but exactly because of this the act of going or living there has a special signification to the person. It is like a surfer going to the Southern Pacific on the hunt for big waves. If you are a novelist from the north, you are an heir of a rich oral tradition. You deserve some respect as a surfer from Hawaii or Tahiti does. Saigyo was a 12th-century poet / Buddhist monk, probably born in the Kyoto area, and traveled the north of Japan twice. Osamu Dazai, the author of this modern classic «No Longer Human / Ningen Shikkaku», was born in the northern tip of Japan's main island, Honshu, and became a successful novelist and ladies' man in Tokyo.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 65-3 Harmful intelligence

Today's Tao

Therefore, governing a country by intelligence does it harm. (Ch.65)

Is intelligence harmful?

Yes.

That's what Lao Tzu is saying here.

"Governing a country" means "controlling your hologram".

It is about your attitude towards your own self and the rest of the world.

You should not control them by intelligence.

Why is intelligence harmful?

Because intelligence induces the dichotomy between your own self and the objective world.

The one and only objective world is a myth.

The seemingly outside world is part of the hologram along with your own self.

If you think intelligence is a useful tool to analyze and control the hologram, you are refusing to accept it as a catalyst.

Be stupid!

Forget being smart, and you will have no resistance against the world in front of you.

☞剣禅一如 [ken zen ichi nyo]. This is the teachings of Miyamoto, Musashi. It means: "The sword and Zen are the same". He wrote «The Book of Five Rings / Gorin no Sho». Musashi's sword is certainly Zen Master Dogen's Genzo 眼蔵, or the hologram. ☞If the sword is Zen, is Aikido science? It is a difficult question. But, at least, we have a Japanese gentleman who practices both at the highest levels. He is Tatsuo Kimura. He is one of the highest disciples of late Yukiyoshi Sagawa and a professor of mathematics at University of Tsukuba in Japan. He wrote «Transparent Power». It is about the principles of Aikido.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 65-2 Too intelligent

Today's Tao

It is difficult to govern people because they are too intelligent. (Ch.65)

"How intelligent you are!"

When someone tells you this, does it make you happy?

If so, you have got a few things to think about.

First, is intelligence yours?

Is intelligence generated purely inside your own self?

Intelligence is information that comes and goes just like the clouds in the sky.

Second, does intelligence help you?

If you don't care about it, no problem.

It is like the flowers on the field.

But if you think that intelligence is a powerful tool to analyze the objective world, mmm, certainly it is a hindrance.

The word "people" means «you» in the Today's Tao sentence.

Lao Tzu is telling you:

"Don't be intelligent!".

☞The original of Akira Kurosawa's «Rashomon» is Ryunosuke Akutagawa's «In the Grove / Yabu no Naka». Akutagawa also wrote a short story called «Kappa». A kappa is a legendary bipedal semiaquatic creature. It is believed to be as intelligent as human beings, probably more. It has a dish-like body part situated on the top of the head, where it can keep water. As long as the part is wet, it can prolong the time outside the river. Kappa 河童 literally means a river kid. It is thought to adore cucumbers. That's why a sushi roll with a piece of cucumber is called "Kappa-maki".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 65-1 Ignorant

Today's Tao

In the old days, those who did Tao well didn't make people bright by it. Instead, they made them ignorant by it. (Ch.65)

Who are "people"?

"People" are you.

If you want to know who you are, look at people around you.

They are you.

Or, more precisely, they are your own self beyond your control, or Tako 他己. (☞ See Tao by Matsumoto / You and non-you)

You use Tao to make yourself more stupid.

The more ignorant you are, the closer to Tao you are.

If you are bright, brilliant, or intelligent, it is difficult to accept that your intelligence is part of the hologram and, therefore, does not belong to you.

That's why Lao Tzu asks you to reduce your knowledge and learn not to learn. (☞ See Reduce 48-1 and Learn no learn 64-18)

Tao answers your question!

☞There are two gems highly recommended. One is Yasunari Kawabata's «The Scarlet Gang's of Asakusa / Asakusa Kurenai-dan» and the other is Yasujiro Ozu's «Tokyo Story / Tokyo monogatari». Both portray the beauty and cruelty of everyday life in Tokyo. The former was written before World War 2 and the latter was shot right after it. The buildings and fashions in Tokyo are no longer the same. The mentality of the people there changed, well, once. Once Tokyo was a symbol of the consumer society. After the two decades of sluggish economy, a new type of consumers is emerging. They are consumers who do not consume a lot. They are post-consumers. They appreciate non-material things more than material ones. They are ready to adore the friendship for survival in «The Scarlet Gang's of Asakusa» and the sensitivity towards person-to-person contacts in «Tokyo Story».
