Tao Te Ching Chapter 81-5 Act for others

Today's Tao

Although he does everything for others, he has more. (Ch.81)

First, who are "the others"?

The others are you.

All the other beings are an extended part of your own self.

The self under your control, Jiko 自己, and the self beyond your control, Tako 他己. (☞See Moonlight and Dewdrops / Dogs and Roosters 80-12)

They are the same hologram.

Therefore, Jiriki 自力/ Self-power, and Tariki 他力/ Other-power are the same. (☞See «Related Articles» below)

These concepts are useful tools to reduce resistance.

Second, what is the act of doing everything for others?

It is that of doing nothing.

Doing nothing is sending Love (=Tao) by accepting all.

This is the true Za-zen 坐禅. This is the true sitting.

You receive Tao's energy through a hologram (=the world, =your life) without resistance by accepting all.

Then, you emit the energy while projecting a hologram.

Everything exists to maintain this cycle.

You live for this cycle. (☞See Eternal cycle 58-5)

Therefore, the most religious act of all is living.

Living is a catalyst, so there is neither better living nor worse living as long as you are emitting Love.

What is happening in your hologram doesn't have the slightest importance.

You are doing nothing no matter what you are doing.

In other words, you are sending love no matter what you are doing.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 81-1 Beautiful words

Today's Tao

Trustworthy words are not beautiful. Beautiful words are not trustworthy. (Ch.81)

If you don't have time, please just check this chapter.

As Lao Tzu says, reading words is not very important.

The important thing is living.

Living is the most religious act of all.

There are three basic points.

1. The so-called world is a hologram and catalyst to keep Tao's energy circulating.

2. "Self" doesn't exist. "Self" is just a word given to one part of a hologram. (☞See also Tao Te Ching / Chapter 7 / No Self)

3. Words, including knowledge and thoughts, are part of a hologram.

What is living?

Living is turning the prayer wheel.

It is called Tenborin 転法輪 in Zen Buddhism. (☞See Tao's flower 38-14 and Kensho Jobutsu / No away 47-3)

It is receiving Tao's energy through a hologram and emitting Tao's energy while projecting a hologram.

On your face, it takes place.

It is called Menju 面授, Face transmission. (☞See Face Transmission / Menju / Beauty 80-8)

Beautiful words, such as logic, analysis, judgment, and justice among others, are obstacles that increase your resistance.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 80-5 Armor & Arms

Today's Tao

Though there are armor and arms, there is nowhere to show them off. (Ch.80)

We still have some gentlemen who happily exhibit their armor and arms in the living room.

Do you want to show off something?

I hope not.

When vanity takes control over you, it is worth asking yourself a question:

"To whom do I show off?".

Remember?

You and non-you are part of the same hologram.

I hope you still remember that in Zen Buddhism they are called Jiko 自己 and Tako 他己, the self under your control and the self beyond your control.

The concept of Self seems to be one of the biggest obstacles in many civilizations, industrialized and non-industrialized alike.

Don't look to a ritual or a pharmaceutical stimulant to get out of "Self".

Why don't we say once and for all:

"Self doesn't exist, Mu ga 無我 (=No Self)."?

You don't have to suppress your vanity if you cannot help showing off.

Like Self, vanity is part of the holographic catalyst.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 78-10 Contradiction

Today's Tao

Right words sound contradictory. (Ch.78)

Tao's mechanism of return creates contradiction.

Lao Tzu says here that, if the words do not sound contradictory, they are not right.

They are artificial and superficial.

Let's review Lao Tzu's maxims in this chapter, which sound contradictory.

1. Be as soft and weak as water in order to activate Dark Depth Female. (☞See Water summary 78-1)

2. When you are lost in Mayoi, you are as hard as ice; when you are one with Tao, you are as soft as water. (☞See Water's attack 78-2)

3. A hologram doesn't change. One hologram is the whole world in each moment.
Caution! Each independent being is not one independent hologram. It is part of one hologram along with the other beings, including your own self. It is like a frame in a movie. (☞See No change 78-3)

4. Everyone in the world is you. (☞See Everyone = You 78-6)

5. No matter what we are doing, we are doing nothing, which means "sending Love (=Tao's energy)". (☞See No one acts 78-7)

6. No state. No evil. Don't criticize. Don't judge. (☞See State filth 78-8)

7. No superstitions. No bad omens. They are just catalysts.

8. Lao Tzu thinks it is ridiculous to resist. No resistance.

See? Right words sound contradictory, don't they?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 78-5 Be Soft

Today's Tao

The soft beats the hard. (Ch.78)

"How can I suppress my desire?"

"I'm not supposed to do anything. Am I allowed to breathe?"

"I'm trying to overcome my desire to resist, but resisting resistance is not a form of resistance?"

People ask these questions.

The answer is quite simple: "Be soft".

What is being soft?

It is accepting everything, including your own desire, as a catalyst.

Don't be hard, saying things like "You must not move." or "You must suppress your desire of resistance".

Be soft.

Don't resist.

Don't even resist your desire of resistance.

If you want to breathe, breathe.

If you want to resist, resist.

Just don't forget that desire is a catalyst.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 77-11 After life / Task successfully accomplished

Today's Tao

Although his great tasks are (successfully) accomplished, he doesn't stay there. (Ch.77)

Lao Tzu has said the same sentence in Tao Te Ching / Chapter 2 / Do not judge.

In the world, which is your hologram and a catalyst, you don't have to be successful.

Or rather, I should say: "No matter what is your evaluation of your life, you are successful".

It is quite logical because your only task in life is to emit Love (=Tao).

Whatever you do, you are sending Love, remember? (☞See Plenty of life? 75-3 and Value life 75-4)

Be careful, though.

Some might say: "All right. Our achievement doesn't matter because we are gonna leave this world anyway."

Wrong!

We do not go back to Tao after our life finishes. (☞See Man's self 77-7)

We are Tao itself.

In other words, we are "inside" Tao all the time while we do not "keep staying" in the hologram.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 77-10 Attachment

Today's Tao

Therefore, although something is done, the sage doesn't rely on it. (Ch.77)

Attachment.

We all know that we have to avoid any form of attachment if we practice Tao or Zen.

Here, Lao Tzu repeats what he has told us in Tao Te Ching / Chapter 2 / Do not judge.

Don't "rely on" anything in your hologram.

Don't be attached to anything, right?

Why, though?

Because it is a catalyst.

"What do you mean by 'a catalyst'?", some might want to ask.

If you don't like the expression "catalyst", you may call it a text book.

Life and the world is your text book.

It teaches you by raising you higher.

It makes you learn by pushing you lower.

What do we have to learn, then?

Well, your hologram teaches you just one thing.

Send Love by accepting all.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 76-3 Fragile life

Today's Tao

The life of everything; grasses or trees, is soft and fragile. (Ch.76)

Why does life exist?

Why do the lives of grasses and trees exist?

First, life, or the life of any being, is part of a hologram.

Second, a hologram exists as a catalyst.

The catalyst stimulates Tao, the circulation of the fundamental energy.

This relation between the stimulating and the stimulated beings is metaphorically expressed as "to explain manifestation / 説法 [seppo]", or "to turn the wheel of manifestation / 転法輪 [tenborin]".

In other words, everything you see in your hologram is a prayer.

The catalytic prayer stimulates you, who is Tao.

That's why Zen Master Dogen says:

"Sometimes it uses the letters of one hundred grasses;

sometimes it uses the letters of ten thousand trees".

あるいは百草の文字をもちゐ、

あるいは万木の文字をもちゐる

(Bukkyo 仏経, «Shobogenzo»)

Tao Te Ching Chapter 75-4 Value life?

Today's Tao

Surely, those who do nothing by living are better than those who value life. (Ch.75)

You respect your life as a painted rice-cake, that is to say, a hologram and catalyst.

Perfect!

You value your life a little.

All right.

You value your life a lot and try to achieve the maximum in there.

Lao Tzu might say: "Oh, my god! Surely, you have got a problem".

If you try to control your life, you will certainly be stuck in there.

No act in Life is better than doing nothing.

That's what Lao Tzu is saying.

Besides, we have to learn that, no matter what we do, we are doing nothing in our hologram, which we call Life.

Remember?

No matter what we do, we are sending Love.

Likewise, no matter what they do, they are sending Love to you.

All right?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 75-3 Plenty of life?

Today's Tao

People think lightly of ending life because they demand plenty of life. That's why they think lightly of ending life. (Ch.75)

Life is just a hologram. It is just a painted rice-cake.

It exists as a catalyst to stimulate you to emit more Love (=Tao).

To satisfy your hunger for life, all you can do is to send more Love.

Or rather, we have to learn that, whatever we do, we are always sending Love.

That's why Tozan Ryokai 洞山良价 [Tung-shan Liang-chieh / Dongshan Liangjie] said:

"I am always doing this desperately."

(聯燈會要 [rento eyo] Book 20 / Dogen quoted this in his «Shobogenzo» as shown yesterday)

If everyone is sending Love, "No one can ever do anything evil. Everyone is doing the right thing", right?

"A painted rice-cake / Gabyo 画餅", a hologram, or life is a catalyst.

It is you who satisfy your hunger by sending Love.

Whether you still want a life of plenty or plenty of life, your life is asking you to do the same thing.

Send Love.

Respect your life, or your sweet piece of painted rice-cake.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 75-1 Tax & Starve

Today's Tao

People starve because their king taxes them too much. That's why they starve. (Ch.75)

A: "Right on, Lao Tzu! People are starving because the king taxes us too much! You, too, Master Bonbon. You are asking us too much money. We've got no money left! We've got no bread to eat!"

B: "Don't ask a religious organization to feed you. You, people, are the ones who feed us. Besides, if you don't have bread, eat pancakes or French brioche."

Neither pancakes nor brioche will satisfy their hunger.

Zen Master Dogen would give them the pictures of «a painted rice-cake / Gabyo 画餅».

"If it is not a painted rice-cake, it must not be a remedy to satisfy hunger."

(Gabyo 画餅, «Shobogenzo»)

That is to say, if it is not a hologram, it cannot be a catalyst to stimulate you.

It is just asking you to send more Love.

So are taxes and starvation.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 74-5 Big's carpenter

Dear Tao friends,

Thank you for your patience, and let's resume our journey of Taoism.

Now we are reading the final chapters of Tao Te Ching, and let's cherish every bit of them.

One sentence a day (without Saturdays and Sundays) as if we were finishing the final pieces of chocolate.

Naoto Matsumoto

Today's Tao

If you end life on behalf of those who are in charge of ending life, it is like carving wood on behalf of Big's carpenter. (Ch.74)

"Big's carpenter" means Tao's carpenter. (☞See Big 25-9)

Tao is not supposed to be carved. It is an uncarved block. (☞See Thick 15-8 and Uncarved block 28-12)

Would you like to be a carpenter to carve Tao? In other words, would you like to intervene the natural course of Tao by trying to influence your holographic "life"?

We have precious pieces of advice by Zen Master Dogen if we want to detach ourselves from life.

"If you have Buddha between the beginning of life and the end of it, there is neither the beginning of life nor the end of it."

"If you don't have Buddha between the beginning of life and the end of it, you will not be lost between the beginning of life and the end of it."

「生死の中に仏あれば生死なし」

「生死の中に仏なければ生死にまどはず」

(Shoji 生死, «Shobogenzo»)

Get lost in life.

Lost completely.

Being lost in Mayoi is Satori.

You will find Buddha's love while lost in the life of Mayoi.

But, if it is too painful for you, remember that your life is just a hologram and catalyst.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 74-2 Don't terrify them

Today's Tao

How can you terrify them by ending their life? (Ch.74)

Reincarnation is the creation and re-creation of a hologram.

It is not the story of a child in an exotic country who speaks about his former life in the language of the exotic country, not in the language he was supposed to be using while living the former life.

Tao is the exchange of the energy.

Every time the exchange takes place, Tao creates a hologram as a catalyst.

The end of life is the end of one cycle of this process.

Another one begins simultaneously.

Life is a catalyst, that is to say, an illusion.

That's why they say in Zen Buddhism:

"不生 不滅

[fusho fumetsu]

No life. No end of life".

Do we have to be afraid of the end of a holographic catalyst?

People in the world are not terrified at all by the end of a hologram/life, Lao Tzu says.

Of course not because they are just holographic characters in your catalytic movie.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 73-4 Hatred

Today's Tao

Who knows why heaven doesn't like what it hates. (Ch.73)

"Oh, my god. He hates me. She hates me, too. Everyone hates me! I hate them. They deserve my hatred. I hate all."

If you feel so once in a while, please listen to what Lao Tzu says here.

"Heaven" suggests the world, or your hologram.

He is saying that no one knows the reason why someone hates another.

Why?

It's simple.

Because there is no reason behind it. Of course, not.

In your holographic world, it seems that one hates another, but in fact no one hates anyone.

Hatred is an interpretation you are projecting on what you see.

How can holographic characters in your mind movie hate someone?

All of the catalytic characters are asking you to do just one thing:

Send more Love.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 73-2 Live without acting

Today's Tao

If you are brave enough not to do, you live. (Ch.73)

What is your true living?

It is sustaining Tao.

Tao is the circulation of the fundamental energy.

Tao needs Love emitted by true You.

Remember? Tao, Love, and true You are the same.

So, Tao needs Tao emitted by Tao in order to keep being Tao.

The rest exists as a catalyst to stimulate Tao.

Don't waste energy by "doing something" to the catalyst.

Don't waste your Love.

Send Love straight to Tao, and you will be truly living.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 72-6 Take it

Today's Tao

Therefore, he leaves that and takes this. (Ch.72)

First in Chapter 12, then in Chapter 38, and now this is the third time Lao Tzu asks us to leave "that" and take "this". (☞See Not that one, but this one 12-7 and Leave it 38-15)

Then, what are "this" and "that"?

"This" is Tao, which is true You.

And "that" is your hologram, which is the world in front of you, including your own self.

"Leave your hologram and take Tao."

That's what Lao Tzu is saying here.

Watch out. This could be your pitfall.

"Uh, h… The world is my hologram, and Lao Tzu is asking me to leave the hologram. I know how to do it. I meditate. While meditating I can leave this reality and go into an altered state. This is Satori, right?"

Wrong!

Satori is not an act of looking for a refuge.

Take this reality as a catalyst and cherish "right now right here".

Emit Love and turn the wheel of manifestation (=転法輪 [tenborin]).

Learn: "this = that"!

This is Satori.
