Tao Te Ching Chapter 64-1 Something stable

Today's Tao

It is easy to maintain something stable. (Ch.64)

A: "Master Bonbon, I don't wanna work hard. I am lazy, you know? Show me the easiest way to get enlightenment."

B: "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. After years and years of painful effort, only a few chosen ones will be able to get Satori."

C'mon, Master Bonbon, stop saying these ridiculous things.

Lao Tzu says it here as clearly as day.

It's easy.

Let's decode Today's Tao sentence.

What is "something stable"?

The most stable thing is the fundamental energy, which we call Tao.

Some call it Love; others, Zen or Buddha.

Whatever the name is, Lao Tzu is saying that it is easy to keep it.

In other words, it is easy to be one with Tao.

Because true You are Tao from the beginning without effort or superhuman austerities.

☞Michio Kushi, an advocate of modern macrobiotics, wrote «Your Face Never Lies» in 1983. His «Your Body Never Lies» was published in 2006. ☞Try Kikkoman's organic soy sauce. The birth place of Kikkoman Corp., the biggest soy sauce maker in Japan, is Noda City. The town is also known for the Dojo of Masaaki Hatsumi, the most respected Ninja Sensei. Visit Noda-shi when you come to Japan. It is just a train ride away from Tokyo. The town still keeps the atmosphere of an old commercial village with soy sauce breweries. Very photogenic.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 40-11 Lazy

Today's Tao

The firmest attainment seems lazy. (Ch.40)

If you want to firmly attain Tao, be lazy.

Well, the laziest way is doing nothing.

Don't be productive.

Don't work too hard.

Abandon the virtuous ideas of diligence in the 20th century.

Sincerely, it is counterproductive.

We know what happened because of those virtuous mottoes of righteousness and sacrifice.

A lazy man never begins a war.

Accepting your own laziness is one of the first steps to accept all as they are.

Tao answers your question!

-Kanzan (Kao on the right) and Juttoku 寒山拾得 are very popular figures in Japanese intellectual circles. They have drawn their pictures and written about them. Masuji Ibuse, the author of «Black Rain» wrote a short story called «Kanzan Juttoku». It is about two friends trying to laugh better than Kanzan and Juttoku. It is a pity that I cannot make sure that the collection on the left has this very story.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 15-4 Take time

Today's Tao

Taking time, as if he walked across a river in winter. (Ch.15)

Be lazy!

When someone criticises you for being lazy, here is the best reply.

"A great Chinese philosopher Chuang Tzu said: «Move only when you are forced to move»."

Take your time, especially when you eat.

Chew food well and receive its life.

Zen Master Dogen says:

"Cut the nails of your ten fingers." (Senjo 洗浄, «Shobogenzo»)

"We don't really know neither inside nor outside our body/mind because we don't know the limit of any existence or the elements of material beings."

Naoto Matsumoto says:

If there is no limit between inside and outside the body, keeping your body clean is keeping this world clean.

Chewing food well is another way to show respect to life, a very good way to emit the fundamental energy Tao.

Plus, you may be able to eat less by chewing each mouthful of food 30 - 50 times. You get tired before you finish your third Big Mac.
