Others were too tired to stay awake even while standing there.

Most car owners simply enjoyed washing theirs.

Zen Buddhists use two key concepts to understand it.

1. 即心是仏。[soku shin ze butsu] The very mechanism is Buddha (=Tao).

2. 一切法一心。[issai ho isshin] All the manifestations are one mechanism.

Therefore, treat the so-called reality, which is a manifestation of Tao, as if it is the real Tao (while knowing that the manifestation and Tao are not exactly the same).

半箇衆生半箇法性。・・・。法性不是衆生。

It is not your ego who controls the situation.

Don't be strong.

Your true victory is to keep Tao's mechanism working.

But remember?

There is no space in Tao.

There is neither distance nor direction.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 68-7 Limit of space and time

This is called matching the limit of space and time. (Ch.68)


Dark Depth Female 玄牝 [gen pi] is the attitude of lowering yourself and being submissive in order to be one with Tao, or to remember that true You are Tao.

By not competing, you can attain Tao easily.

It is called Dark Depth Attainment 玄徳 [gen toku].

Using Tariki 他力 / Other-power works well, too.

All of them are the same as matching the limit of space and time.

Space and time are parameters to interpret in-coming information and form a holographic image.

"Matching the limit of time and space" means "understanding that time and space exist only in the hologram".

The limit of time and space is your hologram.

Besides, it is worth mentioning that Zen Master Dogen implies the projection of a hologram with time and space is the true miracle. (Jinzu 神通, «Shobogenzo»)

Do not act.

That is to say, do not intervene in the natural transformation of your hologram.

"But, what can we do? We have to eat and sleep! We've got to go to school or work!", you may say.

If you think so, just do it.

Your thoughts are part of the hologram.

So are your acts.

Whatever you do, you are in fact doing nothing.

Whether you are literally sitting or running around, you are doing Zazen 坐禅 (=so-called "meditation"), which is what Zen Buddhists call "sitting".

You don't have to meditate because life itself is your meditation.

Then, what do we have to do in our life, or our living meditation?

It's easy.

Do nothing.

That is to say, receive and send the maximum amount of Love (=Tao).

☞Do you like sushi? The real simple sushi they serve in a authentic sushi bar in Japan. Not fancy California rolls with avocado inside. What is an uncarved block? A good example is a nigiri sushi ("nigirizushi"). An uncarved block is the state of being as you are. Without exotic sauces. With just plain wasabi and Kikkoman. You enjoy the quality and the freshness of the fish. The young girl in Yasunari Kawabata's «The Dancing girl of Izu» is another good example of being an uncarved block. This low-class dancer behaves with no awareness of class difference. She doesn't even mind running naked out of the huge rocky bath of the open-air hot spring to say hello to the boy student. The "uncarved block" attitude will surely lead you to "Kami nagara no michi", which means "the way like gods". Daisetz Suzuki explains this well in his «Zen and Japanese Culture».

What is "something stable"?

The most stable thing is the fundamental energy, which we call Tao.

Some call it Love; others, Zen or Buddha.

Whatever the name is, Lao Tzu is saying that it is easy to keep it.

In other words, it is easy to be one with Tao.

Because true You are Tao from the beginning without effort or superhuman austerities.

☞«Shinju Ten no Amijima» is an intriguing title. It is the Japanese title for  Masahiro Shinoda's film on the right. The original was written in the days of samurai. The author was Chikamatsu, Monzaemon. It was a puppet play about a tragedy of love. It is based on a true story that took place in an islet called Ami jima, which literally means Net Island. The genius of this Japanese Shakespeare immediately associated it with a famous line from Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching: "天網恢恢 [Ten mo kai kai] Heaven's net is vast". (Chapter 73) A man and a Yujo, which means a "play woman" literally, commit Shinju at Heaven's net Island. This is the meaning of the title.

☞Most of us know who our biggest enemy is. It is ourselves. Keeping this in your mind, how can you fight in a battle? The word "battle" can be interpreted several ways. Modern businessmen look for the answers to the problems in economic battles. Here are some references. The book on the left is Yagyu, Munenori's «The Way of the Living Sword». Yagyu was an excellent swordsman, who was a close friend of Zen Master Takuan, the author of «The Unfettered Mind». The one on the right is Sun Tzu's «The Art of War» written probably in the 6th century BC. Researchers find some similarities between the book and Tao Te Ching. Master Takuan studied the latter and left a lecture book on it.

What Lao Tzu is saying here is rather the other way round.

The outside world, which is your hologram, seems to be influencing you and your life, but it doesn't in fact.

In Zen Buddhism, they use various expressions to illustrate a hologram:

山河大地

[sen ga daichi]

"mountains, rivers, and lands"

and

尽十方界

[jin juppo (jippo) kai]

"ten nooks and crannies of the whole world"

among others.

Its sole objective is to stimulate the circulation of the fundamental energy Tao.

Then, how can we get along with it?


Master Dogen answers the question with a metaphor of a man and a boat.

「われふねにのりて、このふねをもふねならしむ」

[ware fune ni nori te, kono fune wo mo fune narashimu]

"I go on board the boat and make it be a boat." (boat = hologram)

☞When you visit an island in the southern Pacific Ocean, you may come across a tree tied with many strips of colorful cloth. This is a sacred tree. The tree protects the local people. The reminiscence of this worship still remains in the collective memory of the Japanese. We have not forgotten at all our distant past before the days some of our ancestors traveled across the sea from the islands and settled in this archipelago. Tao Te Ching Chapter 61-1 Satori = Reality

A big country is the lower reaches of the river. (Ch.61)


"A big country" here means "to be one with Tao".

"But, wait a minute! You said: 'A country' means one's hologram, didn't you?", you might want to ask me.

Yes, I did.

Being in the hologram is being one with Tao, or being in the state of Satori.

"What? It means that the hologram, the so-called reality, or the world in front of us is Satori, doesn't it?"

Yes, it does.

Living in this world is the Satori.

Many people say some teachings of Taoism and Zen Buddhism are contradictory and incomprehensible.

Why?

Because of this.

They don't want to accept that this very reality is the state of Satori.

It is not something you obtain after long painful hard work.

At "the lower reaches of " a river, which means your hologram, your life, or this world, you are one with Tao.

☞You never know. One day we might consider «Transformers» as national treasures of Japan. At least, the name of the company that invented the group of toy robots is a nice one. The Japanese word "Takara 宝" signifies "treasure". Now Takara corporation is consolidated with Tomy. The Japanese word "tomi 富" means "wealth". "The people" and "heaven" signify the hologram.

Don't try to "govern" or "work" on your hologram.

"The best way" is to try not to waste your hologram, which stimulates you as a catalyst.

What is "not to waste" the hologram?

How do we do it?

Don't worry.

It is nothing too extraordinary or metaphysical.

It is simple.

For example, don't waste your ballpoint pen, paper or electricity.

Don't waste the lives of other beings. When you eat their meat or grains, chew it well and appreciate the life inside.

In short, accept all with respect "as if you store the harvest".

The more you work, the poorer you get.

Then, let's ask ourselves why.

The less you work, the richer you get because you do not waste Tao's energy.

In other words, you create less resistance.

Wealth is part of your hologram.

The hologram transforms itself unless you resist its transformation.

Your hologram is rich and abundant of Tao's energy.

Don't waste it by working on it.

☞The true intelligence is "Do nothing". You might wonder if it is applicable to our modern life. Yes, it is. And more than ever we need to apply it. A good example is late Japanese botanist Masanobu Fukuoka, who developed an agriculture of doing nothing. Read his «The One-Straw Revolution» and tell your friends interested in ecology about the book on the Taoist agricultural revolution, please. ☞Zen monk Ryokan was a Japanese equivalent to St. Francis of Assisi.
