Tao Te Ching Chapter 70-5 Precious one

Today's Tao

The fewer people know me, the more precious I am. (Ch.70)

Why can't you see your face?

Because you don't have a face.

What?

But you can see it on the mirror!

No, it is not your true face.

It is just an image in the mirror.

Do you know who you are?

You are the most precious one, or "the only respectable being" as the baby Buddha said. (☞See No boasting 22-11 and Ordinary? 67-3)

True You are the light that projects the holographic world.

As the actors in a film aren't interested in what kind of a projector they use at the movie theatre, people in your hologram don't care who is lighting them up.

Others don't know you are the Buddha of Infinite Light.

☞Buddha of Infinite Light is also called Amida or Amitābha. "Na mu Amida Butsu". Just call his name, and he will be always there for you. In fact, he is always there for all of us. He is the amazing power source of Tariki. This Other-power lights up all. A life is a process to learn Jiriki / Self-power is the same as Tariki. It is not surprising at all that Zen specialist Daisetz Suzuki was not only a Zen specialist. He was interested in Tariki of Shin Buddhism.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 24-9 After Satori

Today's Tao

Therefore, a man with Tao doesn't stay there. (Ch.24)

A man with Tao gets out of his hologram.

A man with Satori breaks his mirror.

Where do they go after that?

They don't go anywhere but right here.

Because no one is captured in the hologram, or the mundane world, from the beginning.

Everyone is with Tao.

All of us are in the state of Satori.

We have simply forgot about it.

Zen Master Dogen says:

Great Satori has neither beginning nor end. Neither has Mayoi (=being lost). Mayoi never interferes Great Satori. (Daigo 大悟, «Shobogenzo»)

Naoto Matsumoto adds:

Getting out of your hologram means accepting all of it.

Mayoi is a catalyst.

-If you feel as if you were stuck in this world, read «Sansho-uo, Salamander» by Masuji Ibuse. When a frog came into his cave in the water, the salamander was young and smaller. He closed its entrance with his own body. He was not nasty. He just wanted a friend. Some time later, his body got bigger, bigger than the entrance. He was not able to get out of the cave any more.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 22-4 Before parents' birth

Today's Tao

Worn out therefore new. (Ch.22)

It is exactly the same as breaking the mirror in Zen. (☞See also Tao by Matsumoto / Chapter 15 / Man who knows Tao)

If you want to be new, you should wear out your hologram.

Then, you can return to Tao, or Bumo misho izen 父母未生以前 in Zen.

Bumo misho izen means «Before Father and Mother are born».

It is a very important concept describing the state before holographic images are projected.

To "return" to the state, Reverse Thinking is useful.

Some people thank someone up there for letting them live.

With Reverse Thinking, you live in order to say: "Thank you".

Then, you are as new as a newborn baby whose father and mother have not yet been born.

-Misora Hibari was a Judy Garland of Japan. On the left, "musume" means a daughter or a girl. "Tabigasa" literally means a Japanese straw hat for travelling. So, the song is about a young woman travelling alone. On the right, the kanji character for "Yawara" is the same one for Ju of Judo. Judo is "yawara no michi / the soft Tao".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 20-15 Not clear

Today's Tao

I alone am not clear. (Ch.20)

Why do we want to see things clearly?

Intelligence is too highly appreciated, Lao Tzu might say.

Or, do we want to be a clairvoyant to avoid another financial disaster?

When we see things clearly, we are just looking at the reflection on the mirror, but not the light itself.

Look at the sun. Can you see the light clearly?

You are Tao and Dark Depth.

Tao is not clear.

You don't have to see yourself clearly.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 15-14 Break your face

Today's Tao

It doesn't fill up. So, you can wear it out, and it will not be created again. (Ch.15)

No matter how big your ego is, it cannot fill your hologram.

As Zen Master Dogen said, you can polish a tile and make a mirror.

You can "wear out" your hologram.

When you have polished it completely and "worn it out", your face is broken.

"Break your mirror!"

"Break your face!"

All right.

But it is worth thinking what kind of state it is when your face is broken.

Lao Tzu drops a hint:

"It will not be created again".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 15-13 Break your mirror

Today's Tao

He who keeps this Tao doesn't want to be full. (Ch.15)

"Break your mirror."

"Break your face."

These are famous Zen sayings.

The mirror and the face are metaphors for your hologram.

A man who knows he is one with Tao doesn't want his hologram "to be full".

With desire and resistance, the hologram gets bigger and bigger, in a way.

The bigger it is, the harder it is to break it.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 14-15 Tao's face

Today's Tao

When you face it, you don't see its head. (Ch.14)

I wonder why we cannot see our face.

If our appearance is quite important, why don't we have eyes on our hands, or somewhere we can see the face without a help from a mirror.

An inevitable conclusion:

Why can't we see our face?

Because it is not important at all to know what others think of us.

Well, they are part of your hologram, aren't they?

Dogen seems to think we are a mirror itself, and says: "If a roof tile were not to become a mirror, a man could not become Buddha". (Kokyo 古鏡, «Shobogenzo»)

Tile = Mirror = Man = Buddha

Tao Te Ching Chapter 10-6 Blemish

Today's Tao

And can you leave it with no blemish? (Ch.10)

After you clean your mirror, can you leave it with no blemish?

The mirror of Dark Depth is your world, so-called Reality, which is in fact your hologram.

To clean it means to get out of it.

Sometimes Zen monks say: "Break the mirror!"

Cleaning it is one thing, but keeping it clean is another.

How can you do it?

You don't have to do anything.

Zen masters may tell you: "After you break the mirror, all you have to do is to smile".
