Tao Te Ching Chapter 79-3 Contract without payment

Today's Tao

That's why the sage takes the contract, but doesn't ask the person to pay. (Ch.79)

In Today's Tao sentence, "the contract" symbolizes the feelings and thoughts, particularly desire, in a hologram.

"The payment", the fulfillment of them.

Let's make a few things clear.

1. Your feelings and thoughts do not belong to you.

2. They are attached to the hologram.

3. You project the hologram, but don't control it. (☞See Inmo and No mind 49-10)

Now, we are ready to discuss desire.

Desire doesn't belong to you, so you don't have to feel ashamed whatever your desire is.

You should not judge.

Nevertheless, acting directly to fulfill the desire is another thing.

It is worse if you lament the failure of the fulfillment or hold a grudge.

It creates the mental short circuit and blocks the natural flow of Tao. (☞See Brambles 30-3)

Tao Te Ching Chapter 78-7 No one acts

Today's Tao

No one does them. (Ch.78)

為無為

Do not act.

Do no action.

What do they mean, really?

Today's Tao sentence helps us with the question.

Lao Tzu says:

"No one does them".

That is to say, no one acts.

Whatever they seem to be doing, in fact, they are not doing anything.

Certainly not.

Because they are part of one holographic image projected each moment.

The hologram includes your own self.

In conclusion, no matter what you are doing, you are doing nothing.

This is a big relief, isn't it?

Even while breathing, you are doing nothing.

Even if you fail to suppress your desire, you are doing nothing.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 78-6 Everyone = You

Today's Tao

Everyone in the world under the sky knows them. (Ch.78)

Why do I ask you not to resist?

Why do I ask you not to resist even the desire of resistance.

Because I want you to understand everyone is "you".

What Lao Tzu teaches us here is the same.

Everyone knows everything because everything is one.

All the beings, including people, animals, other living (and non-living) beings, and even your own thoughts and feelings, are one.

Since everything is one, everyone knows all, and "you" know all, too.

"You" are the one who projects all.

So, why do you have to hide something from someone?

Why do you have to fight for the disclosure of information?

Well, but if you cannot help it, don't resist the temptation to fight for or against something.

Just remember knowledge is shared by all.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 78-5 Be Soft

Today's Tao

The soft beats the hard. (Ch.78)

"How can I suppress my desire?"

"I'm not supposed to do anything. Am I allowed to breathe?"

"I'm trying to overcome my desire to resist, but resisting resistance is not a form of resistance?"

People ask these questions.

The answer is quite simple: "Be soft".

What is being soft?

It is accepting everything, including your own desire, as a catalyst.

Don't be hard, saying things like "You must not move." or "You must suppress your desire of resistance".

Be soft.

Don't resist.

Don't even resist your desire of resistance.

If you want to breathe, breathe.

If you want to resist, resist.

Just don't forget that desire is a catalyst.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 64-16 Desire no desire

Today's Tao

That's why the sage desires not to desire. (Ch.64)

A: "Master Bonbon, I still have got my desire. I cannot suppress my desire. Please help me."

B: "Meditate for sixty years, and you will have no desire."

A: "I did, Master Bonbon. I have meditated for sixty years. I am eighty years old now. But I cannot suppress my desire yet."

B: "Contact our sales division and buy the special amulet to get rid of your desire."

Master Bonbon, stop saying things like that.

One is suppose to have "no desire".

Desire is part of your own self.

The self is part of your hologram.

Holograms do not exist in reality.

In conclusion, desire does not belong to you from the beginning.

It is a catalyst like feelings, thoughts, mountains, rivers, clouds, and flowers.

"Desiring not to desire" means "accepting that there is no desire".

☞In stead of studying Tao Te Ching, why don't we live Tao Te Ching? Living without resistance. Accepting all with love. "We can't do that cos we are not a saint!", some may say. But, in fact, no matter how you live, you are doing it. It is a question of whether you refuse to admit it or not. Even this question is not important. Look at the geisha girl Komako in Yasunari Kawabata's «Snow Country». She is not aware of what she is doing. She is just living. Her way of living does not stop her from enjoying life. She is a perfect Tao girl.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 64-14 Before completed

Today's Tao

When people do a job, they always defeat it just before it's completed. (Ch.64)

Let's talk about a less ideal approach first.

Even if you cannot suppress a desire to profit from the world surrounding you, don't blame yourself.

Just don't try to act on the world, which is your hologram.

Do you try to change something even if you are happy about it?

No, right?

You try to change it because you are not happy.

This refusal of your hologram creates resistance.

It will block the natural flow of Tao "just before" the hologram comes to exist.

With a seemingly disfigured world, you get frustrated, and it will increase the resistance.

How can you profit from the situation!

Let's discuss another approach tomorrow.

☞Osamu Dazai and Yukio Mishima detested each other. One was jealous of the other, one did not like the other's political views, or one despised the other's writing style. While Dazai's style was based on the oral tradition of story-telling in Japan, that of Mishima was more solidly constructed in terms of the signification of a word or a phrase. One thing is quite clear. Because of the difference, it is easier to translate Mishima's works than those of Dazai. Though it does not at all mean that the latter's works are better than those of the former, it explains why Mishima is internationally better known than Dazai.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 61-5 By stillness

Today's Tao

By stillness, she gets lower. (Ch.61)

Here I repeat Chuang Tzu's teachings.

"Don't move until you are forced to."

Please read and watch Tao by Matsumoto video blog / No hurry 17-6.

Lao Tzu says in Chapter 37:

"Don't desire and be still, and the world under the sky will stabilize itself".

(☞See Be still 37-5)

These are not asking you to fight to sit still.

No, not at all.

They are asking you to accept the hologram, or the world, in front of you as it is.

By stillness, by accepting all, the female gets passive.

Stillness means "going back to the root".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 57-12 Desire

Today's Tao

"I have no desire and the people become an uncarved block by themselves." (Ch.57)

A: "Master Bonbon, I want to have 'no desire'. What can I do?"

B: "Meditate for thirty years, and you will have no desire."

You don't have to meditate and wait for thirty years.

You have no desire from the beginning.

It doesn't belong to you.

Like your mind, feelings, and the clouds in the sky, desire comes and goes.

This is Inmo 恁麼 in Zen Buddhism.

It is part of your hologram.

"Have no desire" means "Accept the fact that you do not possess desire".

If you do it, you will remember that true You are "an uncarved block", which means Tao.

From now on, you don't have to suffer from your desire.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 56-6 Soft light

Today's Tao

Soften the light. (Ch.56)

Don't shine.

Soften your glare.

Do you want to be different, original, or prominent?

This kind of desire is simply an obstacle.

If you are brilliant, it is more difficult to accept that the so-called reality, which includes both your own self and the outside world, is a hologram.

It is a catalyst to stimulate you to emit more Love.

It is not important at all whether you are shining with charisma or not.

You and non-you are the same.

What is the point of shining?

To impress your own self?

You must not be brilliant.

☞Rakugo 落語 is a one man "stand-up" comedy without standing up, that is to say, a show entirely perfumed while squatting. It is a popular art of story-telling born in the Edo period under the reign of the Tokugawa shoguns. Contradictory as it may sound, it was a 230-year period without a war, starting in 1600, governed by samurai, who were supposed to be warriors. In this pacific period, laughter and lust became the center of the people's attention. The role of the concubines and the court jesters had been democratized. Here came the births of the Geisha and the Rakugo. While the word "Geisha" signifies an artist, the true artists of story-telling are called "Rakugo-ka 落語家", which literally means "a house of the fallen language".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 56-4 Be dull

Today's Tao

Dull the sharpness. (Ch.56)

You don't have to be sharp.

"Thank you, Master Lao Tzu!"

"What a relief!"

Lao Tzu thinks that being dull is far better than being sharp.

From now on, you don't have to be either sharp, cutting-edge, nor incisive.

When someone calls us dull, let's thank the person.

We do not have to impress others any more although we have a hidden wish to do so.

Every time the desire to be better than others surfaces in our mind, let's ask ourselves:

"Who are others?".

The others are us.

Don't be sharp.

Be dull.

☞If you know "Tanuki", you will never be fooled by the myth of Japanese efficiency. Ask some of your friends who have studied or worked in Japan. They can tell you some anecdotes that will change your biased idea about the nation's productivity.
Tanuki is often translated as raccoon dogs. I don't know if raccoon dogs in the American continent enjoy the same status concerning their virility and laziness as their Japanese counterpart. Studio Ghibli's «Pom Poko» portrays these aspects precisely and is highly recommended if you are expecting a business meeting with seemingly machine-like colleagues or clients from Far East.
If you are the one who has to fly to the country of the rising sun, the ability to use the word "Tanuki" will save you some rising yens. Tanuki soba buckwheat noodles are one of the cheapest dishes widely available in the land of Sushi, which is not exactly a Japanese equivalent to a hamburger in terms of price. You can order a Tanuki soba at any noodle joint in a major railway station along with a Kitsune, which is the Japanese name of the fox.
Whether you order a Tanuki or a Kitsune, the noodles in the bowl are the same. The difference is the toppings. While you get a piece of Abura-age (fried Tofu) marinated with slightly sweetened soy sauce when you ask for a Kitsune, you get a heap of crispy bits of fried flour-dough if you cry "Tanuki" at the bar. Surely, you have a choice between soba and udon, which is a Japanese answer to fettucini, although most Japanese believe that the combinations of Tanuki-soba and Kitsune-udon are better than otherwise.
Thanks to Maruchan Corp., now you can enjoy Tanuki soba outside Japan. «Midori no Tanuki 緑のたぬき / Green Tanuki» is as highly recommended as the film «Pom Poko». It tastes surprisingly good, considering that it is just 3-minute instant noodles.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-7 Virility

Today's Tao

He is at the peak of virility. (Ch.55)

When you are like a baby without intention, desire, or judgement, you are using Dark Depth Female without knowing it.

This is the state of total acceptance, that it to say, doing nothing.

With no resistance, you are not wasting Tao's energy.

Therefore, you are "at the peak" of your creation.

You are creating your hologram as you desire.

One thing must be added here.

You are in this state all the time.

You don't try to be like a baby.

You are a baby, the perfect master of the universe like baby Buddha. (☞See Buddha alone 20-10)

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-6 Male organ

Today's Tao

Although he doesn't know the intercourse of a male and a female yet, his male organ erects itself. (Ch.55)

A baby without intention or desire is in the state of Bumo Misho Izen 父母未生以前, which means "before the father and the mother are born".

The father, a male, meets the mother, a female in the valley, which is Tao.

The intercourse of a male and a female suggests the Yin Yang circle, which is the prayer wheel and the cycle of Tao's energy.

Your hologram will be projected in the cycle as a baby's male organ erects itself naturally.

Whether you are aware of it or not, the wheel called Life keeps on turning.

A baby doesn't know the mechanism.

Then, would you still like to know it?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 46-5 Want no gain

Today's Tao

No fault is more miserable than wanting to gain. (Ch.46)

Learn that gain and loss are the same.

If you want to only gain, you will be lost in Mayoi.

But, please remember there is nothing wrong with Mayoi.

You may feel frustrated, but that's all.

You don't have to detest the state of Mayoi.

Dogen thinks:

"You get lost by prayers. Prayers never make you get lost."

なんぢ経にまどふ、経なんぢをまよはさず

(Bukkyo 仏経, «Shobogenzo»)

As for gain, if you cannot help wanting it, try to gain as much as possible.

Your desire is a prayer.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 44-7 Stay

Today's Tao

Know staying, and you will never be in danger. (Ch.44)

What does Lao Tzu mean by "staying"?

It does not mean suppressing one's desire and belittling his existence.

Staying means staying in Tao.

But true You are Tao.

You are always "staying in Tao".

When you forget this, you will be in the state of Mayoi, being lost.

You may project seemingly dangerous holograms, but don't worry.

They are there to stimulate you as catalysts.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 44-6 Contentment

Today's Tao

Know contentment, and you will never be humiliated. (Ch.44)

In Buddhism, they talk about "Shoyoku chisoku 少欲知足".

It can be translated as "Desire little and know contentment".

Probably, this is one of the most misunderstood concepts in Buddhism.

Why misunderstood?

We can find a key to answer the question in Tao Te Ching:

Diminish self and reduce desire. (Ch.19)

The key is Self.

Desire is nothing wrong.

The attachment to so-called Self that judges your desire and the rest is the source of the problem.

Holograms, including self, desire, and humiliation, are catalysts to stimulate Tao, which is true You.

Just accept them.

Don't fight to suppress any.

[Note]
In the photo above, it is written: 吾唯足知. 吾唯足るを知る。"I just know contentment."

The square part of the four kanji / Chinese characters 口 symbolizes a mouth. The part is shared by all the four characters.

☞The album on the right is titled «World Favorite Songs Vol.2 Ave Maris» in English. Ocarina Player Sojiro plays your familiar tunes. If you travel in the country side of Japan, you will be surprised how much the occidental music is integrated into provincial landscapes there. Everyday at five or six, depending on the season, you can hear a Dvořák or a Schubert piece from a tall speaker set for the emergency communication in case of earthquakes.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 44-4 "Love" too much?

Today's Tao

That's why, if you love too much, surely you lose a lot. (Ch.44)

"Love" here signifies an obsessive attachment.

Attention!

Kanji / Chinese character 愛 [ai] can be used to express both love and attachment.

In this context it does not mean "love" in the English sense.

Don't be attached to anything.

Attachment creates resistance.

The desire to retain something blocks the natural flow of Tao.

☞The name of Shakuhachi comes form its length, 1 shaku 8 sun 一尺八寸 [isshaku hachisun] / about 54.5 cm. It is an end-blown flute. The instrument has no reeds. It is made of a bamboo trunk. Its simplicity gives the player to express the depth of his soul. Its soft and "primitive" sounds will move the listener profoundly. Once you hear it, you will never forget it.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 41-2 Tao's means

Today's Tao

Being weak is Tao's means. (Ch.41)

Accept the world as it is.

We all know that's the best way.

Then, we wonder why we have got an unquenchable desire to change the world.

Why?

Change itself is nothing bad.

On the contrary, it is essential.

Holograms have to change.

Every time a hologram changes, every time the prayer wheel turns, Tao's energy returns to Tao.

The important thing is that you must not force the hologram to change.

That's why we have to be weak.

Avoiding any direct action on the world is Tao's effective means.

This attitude is called Dark Depth Female 玄牝 [gen pi].

Tao answers your question!

-What do I miss about lost Japan? Legendary Momoe Yamaguchi half naked in the «Izu Dancer» film? No, I don't think so. When I was big enough to go to a movie theatre and see the film, old Japan had already been lost. What Nobel laureate Yasunari Kawabata wrote in the original of the film was the class difference in Japan before World War 2. The post-war Japanese society could not allow a university student to give a generous tip to traveling dancers. Dancers were still despised by good housewives. Dancers travelled from a town to another still in 1970s. But by train or car. Students were no longer considered to belong to an upper class. It was almost impossible for a student to tip a dancer an amount of money big enough to surprise her, unless he went abroad and did it in a developing country.
