Tao Te Ching Chapter 81-1 Beautiful words

Today's Tao

Trustworthy words are not beautiful. Beautiful words are not trustworthy. (Ch.81)

If you don't have time, please just check this chapter.

As Lao Tzu says, reading words is not very important.

The important thing is living.

Living is the most religious act of all.

There are three basic points.

1. The so-called world is a hologram and catalyst to keep Tao's energy circulating.

2. "Self" doesn't exist. "Self" is just a word given to one part of a hologram. (☞See also Tao Te Ching / Chapter 7 / No Self)

3. Words, including knowledge and thoughts, are part of a hologram.

What is living?

Living is turning the prayer wheel.

It is called Tenborin 転法輪 in Zen Buddhism. (☞See Tao's flower 38-14 and Kensho Jobutsu / No away 47-3)

It is receiving Tao's energy through a hologram and emitting Tao's energy while projecting a hologram.

On your face, it takes place.

It is called Menju 面授, Face transmission. (☞See Face Transmission / Menju / Beauty 80-8)

Beautiful words, such as logic, analysis, judgment, and justice among others, are obstacles that increase your resistance.

Lao Tzu answers your question!

«Recommended Books 11» I am glad you are the one who is reading this recommendation. I am sure that I can count on you. Next time you meet one of your friends who are interested in Japan's literature, please mention the name of Osamu Dazai. "Who's that Dazai guy? I know Mishima and Banana, but I have never heard of him", he might reply. Osamu Dazai is probably the most underrated Japanese novelist outside the country. So, the artist needs your help. When the situation is the most desperate, you just feel like laughing. Why? Because laughter has magic. It transforms a tragedy into a comedy within a second. «No Longer Human» and «The Setting Sun» are tragically funny. Both are considered masterpieces in Japan. Smile guaranteed.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 65-9 Perfect integration

Today's Tao

After that, you will reach Tao's perfect integration. (Ch.65)

Let's review Tao's perfect integration, or Big Natural Flow 大順 [tai jun], step by step.

1. You abandon analysis and intelligence.

2. You accept all, that is, all of your hologram while emitting the fundamental energy Tao (=Love).

3. The hologram finishes its role as a catalyst.

4. The hologram, including your own self and other beings, "return" to Tao and gets "re-integrated".

5. Your own self doesn't exist any more. (You remember that your own self does not exist as an independent entity from the beginning.)

This is "your" perfect integration with Tao.

In other words, you have attained Dark Depth.

It is Dark Depth Attainment 玄徳 [gen toku].

Attention!

The moment a phase finishes, another one begins.

There is no end.

Besides, time doesn't exist in Tao.

The multiple phases take place simultaneously.

Then, what can you do really?

Don't worry.

That's why they say: "Do nothing".

Just remember that you are totally integrated with Tao all the time.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 65-2 Too intelligent

Today's Tao

It is difficult to govern people because they are too intelligent. (Ch.65)

"How intelligent you are!"

When someone tells you this, does it make you happy?

If so, you have got a few things to think about.

First, is intelligence yours?

Is intelligence generated purely inside your own self?

Intelligence is information that comes and goes just like the clouds in the sky.

Second, does intelligence help you?

If you don't care about it, no problem.

It is like the flowers on the field.

But if you think that intelligence is a powerful tool to analyze the objective world, mmm, certainly it is a hindrance.

The word "people" means «you» in the Today's Tao sentence.

Lao Tzu is telling you:

"Don't be intelligent!".

☞The original of Akira Kurosawa's «Rashomon» is Ryunosuke Akutagawa's «In the Grove / Yabu no Naka». Akutagawa also wrote a short story called «Kappa». A kappa is a legendary bipedal semiaquatic creature. It is believed to be as intelligent as human beings, probably more. It has a dish-like body part situated on the top of the head, where it can keep water. As long as the part is wet, it can prolong the time outside the river. Kappa 河童 literally means a river kid. It is thought to adore cucumbers. That's why a sushi roll with a piece of cucumber is called "Kappa-maki".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 64-17 Rare coins

Today's Tao

He doesn't value rare coins. (Ch.64)

Lao Tzu says in Chapter 3:

"If they don't value rare coins, people will stay away from theft."

(☞See No rare coins 3-2)

He also says in Chapter 12:

"The coins hard to get make man's behavior bothered."

(☞See Coins 12-5)

Then, what does Lao Tzu mean by the words "rare" and "coins"?

Economy?

Of course, yes, but we need a more specific answer.

Well, the answer is intellectual analysis.

"The sage" does not value analyses.

It is no use analyzing your hologram.

It is waste of time wondering where it comes from.

That's why Zen Buddhists call it Inmo butsu 恁麼物, or a what-on-earth thing.

☞"Lao Tzu's «Tao Te Ching» is too scanty. I want something with more detail!" "How about Zen Master Dogen's «Shobogenzo»?" "Oh, no, it's too bulky. Besides, it is too abstract. I can't use his teachings in life!" "Well, I've got a perfect book for you. It is neither too bulky nor scanty. It is relatively pragmatic." "What is that?" "«Chuang Tzu». It you don't have much time, you can read only «The Inner Chapters», but there are many interesting things to learn in the other chapters, too." "For example?" "Did you like the passage you read Tao by Matsumoto video blog 42-8 Chuang Tzu's teachings?" "Yes, I did. It is about the creation of the hologram." "You can find the passage in «The Outer Chapters» of «Chuang Tzu»."

Tao Te Ching Chapter 53-1 No intelligence

Today's Tao

If I have the least intelligence while travelling big Tao, I am fearful of going sideways. (Ch.53)

Intelligence is misleading.

So is knowledge.

When you have both, you cannot help analyzing things, which is worse.

To follow Tao, you don't need intelligence.

It is a hindrance.

That's why Lao Tzu says:

"When you do Tao, you reduce everything every day." (Reduce 48-1)

If you have too much intelligence, you will go sideways.

Thank you, Master Lao Tzu!

☞Miyamoto Musashi's «A Book of Five Rings» is supposed to have been written about 1645. Inazo Nitobe's «Bushido, the Soul of Japan» was written in 1900. It is interesting to notice that both books did not serve virtually nobody in terms of a real combat in a war. At the time of Musashi, the long period of domestic warfare had ended and the peaceful era of 230 years had already started. At the time of Nitobe, a samurai only existed in the society in a metaphorical sense.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 40-5 Chien yen?

Today's Tao

Therefore, the Chien yen has it. (Ch.40)

According to Osamu Kanaya, Chien yen, 建言 [ken gen] in Japanese, means "saying one's opinion clearly, therefore, it means the maxims that can be a model". (Roshi 老子, [Lao Tzu], p136)

According to Gao Heng 高亨, Chien yen is supposed to be the title of an old book. («Tao: A New Way of Thinking», Chang Chung-yuan)

Unfortunately, there is no genuinely original text of Tao Te Ching.

Comments written by later hands are mixed with the original, and even the specialists are not able to perfectly distinguish Lao Tzu's writings from others'.

Inevitably, the teachings written with pure spirituality were tarnished by academic analyses.

On the other hand, Master Dogen's «Shobogenzo» has not been modified by anyone. That's why I want to use the book as a reliable guide.

The truth must be one. It doesn't matter whether they call it Zen or Tao.

-I hope that people who are capable of reading both English and Japanese will agree with me. Not all the good books have been translated from one language to the other. On the other hand, it is amazing how many less important books have been translated. To work on this Tao by Matsumoto video blog, I owe a lot to these two authors, Osamu Kanaya and Fumio Masutani. None of their works seem to have been translated into English. At least, their books in Enlish are not available at Amazon. If you can read in Japanese, please check Fumio Masutani's «Shobogenzo». You can imagine how embarrassed the English translators of this important spiritual heritage in Japanese will be if they read it.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 22-3 Hollow

Today's Tao

Hollow therefore filled up. (Ch.22)

Do you remember "Thirty spokes share one hub. (Ch.11)"?

Hollow and filled. It is about holography.

If you want to be full, empty yourself.

Reduce and reduce. Particularly reduce your knowledge.

If you have nothing, you have everything.

Those words have confused many.

All right. Let's make them clear once and for all.

First, the so-called world is a hologram. That's why it is called nothing or emptiness.

Second, to learn it, your knowledge simply bothers you. Reduce it and stop analyzing.

Third, then, you will realize that the world, including your own self, is a hologram. Don't look down on it because it is a manifestation of the fundamental energy Tao. That's why it is called everything or all.

If you can love the world, you don't have to listen to all the gibberish, mine included.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 20-14 Investigation

Today's Tao

Mundane people investigate things carefully and analyse them cleverly. (Ch.20)

Do you want to investigate things?

No.

Do you want to analyse all?

No.

You cannot dissect a frog to study its life.

The frog will lose its life, won't it?

You have to believe Life.

Don't doubt Tao, or whatever you believe.

Its name is not important at all.

Don't be clever.

Just believe yourself.

You are Tao, the essence of all the existence.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 2-9 No explanation

Today's Tao

Though everything moves, he does not explain it. (Ch.2)

Things move in the world. Then, what do you do?

Aren't you relying on statistics and analyses?

You are a daredevil, aren't you?

You really have to be a master of life if you see numbers and aren't influenced by them.

Well, Lao Tzu asks us to take the easiest measure.

Do not analyse. Do not explain.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 1-5 Without mind

Today's Tao

Therefore, without mind, you can see the surprising Tao. (Ch. 1)

Do you like your mind?

Your mind often runs wild and analyses all.

If you analyse the world, you will be fooled by its appearance.

Accept your mind and love it.

Let it run wild.

Eventually it gets tired of being wild.

Once your mind stops analysing, you will be surprised to find yourself being one with Tao.
