Tao Te Ching Chapter 26-2 Something still

Today's Tao

Something still is the king (root) of something restless. (Ch.26)

"Do something", people may say.

But don't be restless.

You don't have to do anything.

You should move only if you are forced to.

Don't say, "Do something".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 26-1 Something heavy

Today's Tao

Something heavy is the root of something light. (Ch.26)

"Don't move until you are forced to."

This is Chuang Tzu's maxim.

"Something heavy" means Tao.

You are Tao.

True you are Tao itself.

A heavy thing doesn't move.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 63-3 No taste

Today's Tao

Taste no taste. (Ch.63)

Please don't think this sentence means that you must not taste any.

Instead of "not tasting any taste", it suggests tasting a taste of "no taste".

Like some other expressions in Taoism, "no taste" means emptiness, which means Tao.

So, Today's Tao sentence can be interpreted as:

"Accept all and swallow the energy of Tao".

Emptiness

Today's Tao

Thanks to this emptiness, the wheel is useful. [Ch.11]

Colours are justly emptiness. Emptiness is justly colours.

This famous and enigmatic Buddhist saying is talking about holography.

So is Today's sentence.

Emptiness means Tao. "The wheel" and "colours" signifies holograms.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 23-1 Say no words

Today's Tao

Saying no words makes things come about by themselves. (Ch.23)

You don't have to express yourself in order to make a thing come about.

You had better not act on it directly.

For the occidental minds and oriental Cartesians, this may be one of the most difficult concepts of Lao Tzu's.

By doing nothing, you can put Dark Depth in action.

It is called Dark Depth Female.

The Japanese owe him a lot for his contribution to internationally explain our cultural peculiarities. «The Ballad of Narayama», on the right, which won him his first Best Feature Film prize at Cannes, is about a Japanese son throwing away his aged mother. The photo shows it well. The son is carrying the mother while singing the ballad. The film on the left, «Warm Water Under A Red Bridge» did not win him a prize at Cannes in 2001. Well, if you know what her warm water is, it is understandable. Nevertheless, it is a pity because I used to think the French and the Japanese share a similar sort of scatological sense of humour. The worship of this warm water must have an animist trait.

Attainment

Today's Tao

The characteristic of the great attainment is to follow Tao and Tao only. [Ch.21]

The attainment of Tao is very easy. So is Satori in Zen Buddhism.

You don't have to do anything. Do nothing.

When you learn to do nothing, you have already attained Tao and reached Satori.

"Do nothing" means "Accept all".

If you can accept all, you remember that you are Tao.

All you have to do is to remember it.

This is the attainment of Tao (or Satori).

It's easy, isn't it?

Destroy discernment. Throw away intellect. And people's benefit will be 100 times as much. (Ch.19)

Tao Te Ching Chapter 16-1 Do emptiness

Today's Tao

Do emptiness perfectly. (Ch.16)

When you first face an oriental philosophy, "emptiness" is kind of an obstacle, which may discourage you to approach it.

The idea is sometimes expressed as "sky" in Buddhism.

Sky is just colour. Colour is just sky.

It sounds enigmatically poetic, but it may mean nothing to you.

Emptiness is acceptance.

So, today's sentence means "Accept all".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 18-1 Tao out of use

Today's Tao

After big Tao has fallen out of use, we have "morality of love" and its rules. (Ch.18)

In Taoism, the words like morality and rules are considered pejorative.

For they are not natural and created by a society.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 17-1 The highest

Today's Tao

The highest is the one that the lower ones don't know of. (Ch.17)

Some people think that Lao Tzu is talking about politics here.

But it is quite unlikely that he talks about it while he knows people and its politics are part of his hologram.

In this sentence, he talks about how one can treat his hologram.

Of course, the best way is not to let the people know that you are the one who creates the hologram.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 48-3 Do nothing

Today's Tao

By doing nothing, you can do everything. (Ch.48)

This expression "doing nothing" has been confusing the occidental world for a fairly long time.

The question is "Can you really do nothing?".

No, if you try to understand it literally.

We live, don't we?

It is already more than doing nothing.

But, yes, if you truly understand the quintessential message of any oriental philosophy.

It means "Accept all".

We can do it, can't we?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 15-1 Dark Depth

Today's Tao

In the old days, a man who knew well about Tao comprehended Dark Depth minutely and subtly. (Ch.15)

Dark Depth is a literal translation of the Chinese character 玄. (Hopefully, your browser can show the character correctly.)

Dark Depth is synonymous with Tao. This is the message that the sentence above wants to tell you.

When you are one with Tao, you can really see that your act of doing nothing transforms the world (=your hologram).

Tao Te Ching Chapter 14-1 You can't see Tao

Today's Tao

Even if you try to see it, you can't do it. (Ch.14)

You cannot see Tao. You can only receive the energy of Tao through your hologram, which is its manifestation.

You may think that Tao is a kind of field such as the magnetic field.

It may help you to understand Tao and its mechanism, but, if you stick to the idea, it will do you more harm than good.

After all, all the fields that science proposes exist inside your hologram.

Tao, of course, exists in it. But it does exist outside of it as well.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 13-1 Excitement

Today's Tao

Favour and disgrace are like excitement. (Ch.13)

If you don't judge, favour and disgrace are the same.

All they do is to excite you one way or another.

Lao Tzu sometimes asks you to think about things the other way round, that is to say, swap the cause and the result.

In stead of thinking favour and disgrace affect you, one can think that they exist in order to excite you.

Emotion is a form of energy. That's why we have some causes to make us emit the energy.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 12-1 Five colours

Today's Tao

Five Colours make man's eyes blind. (Ch.12)

Too much visual information blinds people's mind, for sure.

But what Lao Tzu wants to tell you here is something more than that.

One should not be fooled by something you see because it is just a hologram, which is a catalyst.

You have only to accept it.

There is no point of getting annoyed by it.

It is there only to stimulate you to emit more of the fundamental energy Tao.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 11-2 Wheel

Today's Tao

Thanks to this emptiness, the wheel is useful. (Ch.11)

Is it just a coincidence? Or, is it an interpretation beyond what is really written?

In either case, it doesn't matter at all to me.

I find this sentence a fantastic metaphor of holography. (☞See the previous entry)

In this context, "emptiness" signifies Tao, and "the wheel" your hologram.

It is exactly like a Tibetan prayer wheel.

Thanks to Tao, your hologram is projected.

Thus, you can perceive the world.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 11-1 30 spokes

Today's Tao

Thirty spokes share one hub. (Ch.11)

Again, this is a metaphor of holography.

Imagine a movie theatre where they project images 360 degrees around you.

You are at its centre like the hub.

The spokes are a beautiful metaphor for the beams of light projected by the projector.

Please compare this to Chuang Tzu's metaphor of the frog in the well. (☞See Tao by Matsumoto Chapter 5b What's a hologram)

It is nice, too.
