Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-16 No early end

Today's Tao

If you are against Tao, you come to an early end. (Ch.55)

Is time your enemy?

Do you want to stay young?

Do you want to live forever?

Time is running out.

Logically, as you grow up, you get closer to an end.

Though you want to think about Tao, you keep on saying:

"I've got no time. I've got no time".

You know, you are absolutely right when you say that.

Tao has no time.

Neither do you.

Time is just a parameter to reconstruct information in your mind.

Past, present, and future are taking place simultaneously.

That is to say, "If you are one with Tao, you live eternally".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-15 Anti-Tao

Today's Tao

This is called being against Tao. (Ch.55)

Let's review this chapter.

What do you do to avoid being against Tao?

1) Be like a baby.

2) Don't worry. You are safe.

3) Accept that your own self does not belong to you.

4) You don't have to know about Tao's mechanism.

5) Relax. Without knowing it, you are using Dark Depth Female 玄牝 [gen pi].

6) Don't forget that you are always in harmony.

7) Don't seek Satori.

8) Reduce all.

9) Don't try to manipulate Tao.

10) Don't be strong.

Tao answers your question!

☞Zen and a dancing girl. You might think they have got nothing to do with each other. Then, how about Zen and a motorcycle? Or, a motorcycle and a girl in Izu. A Zen father travels across North America with his kid on the motorbike. An Imperial University student could have traveled on a Honda through the Izu Peninsula, where winding roads and ocean views fascinate latter-day seekers of the Way on a two-wheeler. But, there is one thing incoherent here. Imperial universities in Japan no longer exist because we do not have an empire any more. On the other hand, Honda Motor Company, Ltd. had not even produced a motorbike while the empire was intact.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-14 Strong = Old

Today's Tao

If a thing is strong, it gets old. (Ch.55)

You can find the same sentence in Chapter 30.

Being strong is like athletes using steroids.

They get old prematurely. (Strong steroids 30-11)

Chuang Tzu says:

"Do you know that prayer mantis?

Waving its arms angrily, it confronts the wheel of a cart."

(Inner Chapter IV 内篇 人間世篇 第四, «Chuang Tzu 荘子»)

The wheel of the cart is time, your prayer wheel.

The mantis wants to be strong.

Strong enough to defeat the cart, which is a few thousand times bigger than itself.

If you want to be strong, please ask yourself whether you look like this mantis.

If you are strong, you get old. If you fight, the wheel of time will crush you.

Be like a baby and live forever.

☞«Chuang Tzu» is a very important book. There is not doubt about it. But the problem is that there are so many comments by later hands mixed up with the original. Besides, the book is rather voluminous. Inevitably, one has to ask himself whether it is worth reading the entire book. A relatively safe bet is to read only «The Inner Chapter of Chuang Tzu». Nevertheless, researchers admit that even in the Inner Chapter there are plenty of notes and comments written by someone else.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-13 Takuan / Mind & Ki

Today's Tao

Mind using energy Ki is called strength. (Ch.55)

"Strength" means force.

Forcing yourself is not natural at all.

Do you want to manipulate Ki the energy for your own benefit one way or another?

Please don't misunderstand that Lao Tzu encourages you to use Ki the energy.

He is saying here that you should not allow your mind to use Ki the energy.

Don't let your mind confuse you.

Japanese Zen Master Takuan said:

心こそ心まよはす心なれ

心に心、心ゆるすな

[kokoro koso kokoro mayowasu kokoronare

kokoro ni kokoro, kokoro yurusuna]

Mind! It's the mind that confuses the mind.

Mind! Don't let the mind take over the mind.

☞If you want to understand traditional "Male Love / Danshoku" in Japan, you should read this «The Great Mirror of Male Love» by Ihara Saikaku along with «Hagakure». The latter talks about Bushido, that is to say, Tao of Samurai, but what the author discusses in the book is not exactly what we associate with the word "warrior" all the time. If you ignore the boundary between the male and the female, the characters in «The Great Mirror of Male Love» behave more like Genji the aristocratic seeker of a heterosexual love in «The Tale of Genji».

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-12 No increased life

Today's Tao

Increasing life is called ill omen. (Ch.55)

More knowledge.

More money.

More meditation.

More Satori.

Lao Tzu says:

"Reduce and reduce".

Don't try to add anything to life, which is your hologram.

The holograms are catalysts.

The more catalysts you have, the more confused you may get.

That's why Zen masters say:

"Just sit".

But, watch out.

Master Dogen says:

"Sitting is not just sitting".

If you meditate for the peace of your mind, it is not true Za-zen, he explains.

(Zazenshin 坐禅箴, «Shobogenzo»)

If you see any increase in your life, it is "ill omen", knowledge and meditation included.

An antithesis of the beauty incarnated in Komako the onsen geisa could be found in Kafu Nagai's «Geisha in Rivalry». You can read about the business pragmatism of a geisha's life. Kafu Nagai depicted his own beauty embodied in a woman of a despised profession in «A Strange Tale from East of the River», coincidentally published in 1937.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-11 Constant enlightenment

Today's Tao

Learning constancy is called enlightenment. (Ch.55)

This sentence is totally identical to the one in Chapter 16.

I hope you will read Tao by Matsumoto 16-9 Satori to understand it better.

In that entry, I said:

"By leaving your hologram, you can return to Tao".

What is "leaving your hologram" precisely?

Can we leave our hologram?

The answer is no in two senses.

First, your own self cannot leave the hologram.

Second, Tao, which is true You, is not part of the hologram.

Then, what does "leaving your hologram" mean?

It means understanding and accepting that true You are Tao and have little to do with your own self.

You don't have to seek enlightenment, or Satori, because true You are already and "constantly" enlightened.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-10 Know harmony?

Today's Tao

Learning harmony is called constancy. (Ch.55)

Please don't forget that you are always in harmony.

In Chapter 16, Lao Tzu says:

"Going back to the destiny is called constancy".

Therefore, learning harmony is going back to the destiny.

What does this mean?

It means that your destiny is always in harmony because life is the hologram you project.

If you know it, you can minimize your resistance every time the hologram comes out of and goes back to Tao.

The process is constant no matter how you judge the harmony.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-9 Peak of harmony

Today's Tao

He is at the peak of harmony. (Ch.55)

A: "Master Bonbon, why do miseries and injustice exist on this planet."

B: "Thanks to miseries and injustice, our organization can get money out of you."

A baby is in a perfect harmony.

Not just babies, in fact, all of us are always in harmony.

We are living in a perfect world no matter how much you refuse to accept the fact.

Stop naming miseries and injustice on the planet and getting angry, please.

They are part of your hologram.

A baby does not judge because he knows that his hologram is perfect.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-8 Su Dongpo / No husky voice

Today's Tao

He cries out all day long, but his voice doesn't get husky. (Ch.55)

A baby can "cry out all day long" because his energy won't be exhausted.

His hologram can keep crying because Tao is inexhaustible.

Eleventh-century Chinese poet So Toba / Su Dongpo 蘇東坡 expressed this beautifully:

無一物中無尽蔵

花あり月あり楼台あり

[Mu ichi motsu chu mu jin zo

hana ari tsuki ari rodai ari]

Nothingness has an unlimited storage.

Flowers exist. The moon exists. A tower exists.

The first line has become one of the favorite expressions among Zen Buddhists.

Please read Tao by Matsumoto 39-12 Inexhaustible valley.

The entry explains this in detail in terms of the signification of each Kanji / Chinese character.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-7 Virility

Today's Tao

He is at the peak of virility. (Ch.55)

When you are like a baby without intention, desire, or judgement, you are using Dark Depth Female without knowing it.

This is the state of total acceptance, that it to say, doing nothing.

With no resistance, you are not wasting Tao's energy.

Therefore, you are "at the peak" of your creation.

You are creating your hologram as you desire.

One thing must be added here.

You are in this state all the time.

You don't try to be like a baby.

You are a baby, the perfect master of the universe like baby Buddha. (☞See Buddha alone 20-10)

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-6 Male organ

Today's Tao

Although he doesn't know the intercourse of a male and a female yet, his male organ erects itself. (Ch.55)

A baby without intention or desire is in the state of Bumo Misho Izen 父母未生以前, which means "before the father and the mother are born".

The father, a male, meets the mother, a female in the valley, which is Tao.

The intercourse of a male and a female suggests the Yin Yang circle, which is the prayer wheel and the cycle of Tao's energy.

Your hologram will be projected in the cycle as a baby's male organ erects itself naturally.

Whether you are aware of it or not, the wheel called Life keeps on turning.

A baby doesn't know the mechanism.

Then, would you still like to know it?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-5 Soft sinew

Today's Tao

His bones are weak, his sinews are soft, and his hold is tight. (Ch.55)

Do you want to hold Tao tightly?

Holding something tightly and sticking to it is not exactly a good idea, though.

Well, if you still want to do it, be weak and soft like a baby.

You cannot hold Tao. Let's make it clear about this.

Nevertheless, being soft and and weak is an effective way to remember that you are one with Tao.

Soften your own self.

Weaken your strong ego.

Minimize the intervention by your own self, which is part of the hologram.

Why don't we say "My own self does not belong to me." once and for all?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-4 No hitting

Today's Tao

Eagles and hawks don't hit him. (Ch.55)

You are safe if you are like a baby.

Nothing can hurt you unless you judge it.

No one hits you.

He is hitting your hologram.

Why do they hit monks in Zen?

Dogen answers:

"Hitting a man means making the man."

打人といふは作人といはんがごとし

[dajin to iu wa sajin to iwan ga gotoshi]

(Ganzei 眼睛, «Shobogenzo»)

That's how they make the monks conscious of their hologram.

Today's Tao

Violent animals don't attack him. (Ch.55)

In your hologram, there is no danger.

Then, why are we fearful of the attack by our enemy or an animal?

Daisetz Suzuki tells us the story of a Japanese samurai swordsman and cats. (The swordsman and the cat, Appendices IV, «Zen and Japanese Culture»)

Let's ask the wisest cat.

"Why do we have the enemy?"

"Because of the self there is the foe; when there is no self there is no foe."

The cat continues:

"You make no choice between right and wrong, like and dislike."

Both your own self and the enemy are part of the same hologram.
