Tao Te Ching Chapter 77-12 Secret of superiority

Today's Tao

He doesn't want to show off his superiority. (Ch.77)

A: "Master Bonbon, I am better than others, right? I've just sent 1,000 holographic video game consoles to poor children in Japan."

B: "Shut up, idiot! Cash is always better than toys. If you had donated the same amount of cash to our organization, you could have been a 'chosen disciple of the week' instead of a generous idiot!"

Tell me honestly.

Would you like to be a mystic Taoist superior to the rest of the population?

Or, would you like to be a "chosen" Zen disciple selected by a mighty master?

If so, I'm afraid to tell you: "No, you cannot!".

Why?

Because everything is one.

It is impossible to distinguish one from another.

So, how can you be better than others!

Tao Te Ching Chapter 77-8 Rich man's excess

Today's Tao

It reduces what is already lacking and gives it to those who have excess. (Ch.77)

A: "I am rich, but I wanna be richer. What do I have to do, Master Bonbon?"

B: "Donate your money to our organization. The more you donate, the richer you get."

A: "Don't be stupid, Master Bonbon. The more I donate, the richer YOU get."

Some people say:

"He is excessively rich. He's got to use his money to save the world!"

All right, all right.

I understand, but let Tao do its job of "bending the bow". (☞See Bend a bow 77-1)

The more upset you are, the more resistance you create.

Especially, be careful of the media.

No matter what they say, they are asking you only one thing.

They are asking you to emit more Love as the other elements in your hologram do.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 77-6 Nirvana / Reduced excess & Supplied lack

Today's Tao

Heaven's Tao reduces excess and supplies what it lacking. (Ch.77)

A: "Give us food. Give us clothes. Save us, Master Bonbon!"

B: "Give us money first. We will invest it on the financial market. Then, the profit will save you."

Please trust yourself.

Trust Tao.

"Heaven" means your hologram.

"Heaven's Tao" signifies the the presence of Tao inside all the bits and pieces of your hologram.

Tao's nature of manifestation is called Hossho 法性 in Buddhism.

This world is your Nirvana.

Don't try to look for a better place somewhere over the rainbow.

Your holographic world is perfect.

Stop saying silly things like: "We have to improve this world".

Instead, thank the world for being as it is, and Tao will take care of the rest, by reducing excess and supplying what is lacking.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 77-4 No excess / Why does history repeat itself?

Today's Tao

It reduces excess. (Ch.77)

We used to adore excess, especially excessive consumption.

When you consumed food, energy, or money excessively, you were considered wealthy and sometimes provoked jealousy in others.

Now, the pendulum of our collective awareness seems to have changed its direction.

These days, when you waste our natural resources, you look a bit idiotic.

I don't know how long this tendency of post-consumer society will last.

Probably, one century.

Maybe, 50 years.

Who knows.

But one thing is sure.

One day, our social pendulum will go backwards.

Why does history repeat itself?

History is part of your hologram, which imitates the cycle of Tao.

Tao's circle does not have excess.

So, a hologram doesn't like excess.

Tao's cycle repeats itself.

So does history.

[Note]
Please don't forget that Tao doesn't have time. All the history in your hologram is created simultaneously.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 75-1 Tax & Starve

Today's Tao

People starve because their king taxes them too much. That's why they starve. (Ch.75)

A: "Right on, Lao Tzu! People are starving because the king taxes us too much! You, too, Master Bonbon. You are asking us too much money. We've got no money left! We've got no bread to eat!"

B: "Don't ask a religious organization to feed you. You, people, are the ones who feed us. Besides, if you don't have bread, eat pancakes or French brioche."

Neither pancakes nor brioche will satisfy their hunger.

Zen Master Dogen would give them the pictures of «a painted rice-cake / Gabyo 画餅».

"If it is not a painted rice-cake, it must not be a remedy to satisfy hunger."

(Gabyo 画餅, «Shobogenzo»)

That is to say, if it is not a hologram, it cannot be a catalyst to stimulate you.

It is just asking you to send more Love.

So are taxes and starvation.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 71-2 Radio & Knowing

Today's Tao

Not to know "knowing" is difficult. (Ch.71)

Lao Tzu is saying that it is not difficult at all to learn what "knowing" is.

"Knowing" is part of a hologram, which Zen Buddhists call Inmo. (☞See Inmo and No mind 49-10)

Knowledge is a sort of information that you receive from "outside".

It is in the same way that a radio receiver receives a signal.

As no radio program belongs to its listener, we don't own knowledge.

"Knowing" is receiving.

We receive Love through knowledge.

Knowledge is like money in your bank account.

You draw it when you need it.

In other words, you know all you have to know.

If you don't know about something, it is because you don't have to know it.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 59-6 Never-ending cycle

Today's Tao

If you don't see the end of this cycle, you can keep the country. (Ch.59)

A: "Master Bonbon, banks are bankrupt. Our country is collapsing. Do something for us!"

B: "Trust your bank managers and political leaders. Leave your money in the stock market. Meditate and wish that stock prices will go up."

Remember?

When Lao Tzu says "the country", it means "your hologram".

Zen Master Fuyo Dokai 芙蓉道楷 (Fu-jung Tao-k'ai) called it "blue mountains".

He said:

"Blue mountains walk constantly. 青山常運歩"

(正法眼蔵「山水経」より)

This is the Tao / hologram cycle.

It is Hokke ten hokke 法華転法華: Buddha's manifestation turns Buddha's manifestation (=Tenborin 転法輪).

This cycle of the manifestation of Love will never stop.

Don't worry.

従来の転いまもさらにやむことなし

In the chapter of Hokke ten hokke in «Shobogenzo», Master Dogen guarantees you that the spin of this cycle has never stopped nor will stop.

You know why?

Because you are the cycle.

☞Intelligence has the least importance for Lao Tzu. Nevertheless, some books are worth reading. You can get information in order to reduce your knowledge in general. Another is Shusaku Endo's «Silence». The Japanese Catholic author tries to look for the answer to the question: "Why did God keep silent at the very moment when one needed his voice?".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-12 No increased life

Today's Tao

Increasing life is called ill omen. (Ch.55)

More knowledge.

More money.

More meditation.

More Satori.

Lao Tzu says:

"Reduce and reduce".

Don't try to add anything to life, which is your hologram.

The holograms are catalysts.

The more catalysts you have, the more confused you may get.

That's why Zen masters say:

"Just sit".

But, watch out.

Master Dogen says:

"Sitting is not just sitting".

If you meditate for the peace of your mind, it is not true Za-zen, he explains.

(Zazenshin 坐禅箴, «Shobogenzo»)

If you see any increase in your life, it is "ill omen", knowledge and meditation included.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-9 Peak of harmony

Today's Tao

He is at the peak of harmony. (Ch.55)

A: "Master Bonbon, why do miseries and injustice exist on this planet."

B: "Thanks to miseries and injustice, our organization can get money out of you."

A baby is in a perfect harmony.

Not just babies, in fact, all of us are always in harmony.

We are living in a perfect world no matter how much you refuse to accept the fact.

Stop naming miseries and injustice on the planet and getting angry, please.

They are part of your hologram.

A baby does not judge because he knows that his hologram is perfect.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 54-1 Well built

Today's Tao

A thing well built cannot be pulled out. (Ch.54)

A: "Master Bonbon, where is Tao? Where can I see it?"

B: "Meditate for thirty years or donate your annual income, and you will get the power to see Tao."

Don't worry, everyone.

Don't listen to what Master Bonbon says.

"Well built" in this context means "deeply rooted".

Tao the fundamental energy is deeply rooted in everything.

The important thing is that you cannot "pull out Tao".

This means that, no matter what you do, Tao is with you.

Because you are Tao.

No worries.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 53-7 Thief's luxury

Today's Tao

This is called a thief's luxury. (Ch.53)

Lao Tzu teaches us that beautiful clothes, gourmet dinners, and excessive money are "a thief's luxury".

So are a Samue 作務衣 Japanese working kimono, a Kaiseki 懐石 zen dinner, and an Ofuse お布施 donation.

Don't be fooled by either material wealth nor oriental exoticism.

Do not judge them, either.

"A thief's luxury" is part of your hologram, which is a manifestation of Tao.

Therefore, every time we see a wealthy monk or a Zen snob, we should say:

"Thank you for stimulating me to emit more Love."

Tao Te Ching Chapter 53-6 Too much money

Today's Tao

Some wear a beautiful dress with a sharp sword, tired of eating and drinking, having too much money. (Ch.53)

When you see excessive wealth, do you get jealous?

Please don't judge anyone because they are rich.

They are being "rich" for you.

Zen Master Dogen clearly says:

"The entire world is just an ume flower. Since the entire world is an ume flower, the entire world is Buddha's hologram."

尽界梅華なるがゆゑに尽界は瞿曇の眼睛なり。

(Baika 梅華, «Shobogenzo»)

The world of luxury, gourmandism, and capitalism is your hologram and a catalyst to stimulate you.

Don't doubt this.

The master also says:

"Grasp intuitively that an ume flower is a hologram. Don't look for another answer."

直に梅華眼睛を開明なるべし、さらにもとむることやみね。

(Baika 梅華, «Shobogenzo»)

Thanks to Tsumura Juntendo's bath salt «Bathclin» (I don't know what it means. A bath clean?), we were able to take a nice and relaxing bath, an economical onsen substitute.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 50-7 No one-horned water buffalo

B: "You are my best client. Donate all of your money, and you will be protected."

A: "But I have no money, Master Bonbon. Instead of paying money, I will meditate. Will I be saved?"

B: "Get out of here if you have no money."

Today's Tao

A: "Master Bonbon, how can I attain my faith?"

B: "The more money you donate to our organization, the closer you get to your faith."

You may laugh at Master Bonbon, but are you sure the priest next to you is better than him?

Let's make it clear that salvation or Satori is free of charge.

You don't have to pay for your faith.

Let me put it another way.

Whether you have faith or not, your objective is to maintain the circulation of the fundamental energy Tao. Nothing else.

The moment you remember this, you attain faith.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 44-2 Body or money

Today's Tao

Body or money, which is more? (Ch.44)

Can you say "Hello" to your illness?

Can you say "Welcome" to your financial problem?

You want to fight against them, right?

No. If you do so, you are not courageous.

If you are truly courageous, you must have the guts to accept them as they are no matter how difficult it is.

Don't fight against your illness.

Just love your financial problem.

Health and money are part of your hologram.

You project them.

So, all you have to do is to do nothing.

Don't be attached to health or money.

Then, your hologram will transform itself.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 33-7 Tao the eternal

Today's Tao

Not losing this place is eternal. (Ch.33)

A: "Master Bonbon, you said I had got Satori, right?"

B: "Yes, indeed."

A: "But, Master Bonbon, I am losing my Satori, I suppose. One day, I'm gonna lose all of my Satori. Please help me."

B: "Donate all of your money to our temple, and you will be saved."

Tao Te Ching Chapter 30-10 Force nobody

Today's Tao

It's just a result. Don't force any. (Ch.30)

Stocks may go up and down.

Your beloved Yankees may win and lose.

The result is there to stimulate you to turn the prayer wheel called Life.

Don't buy and sell stocks to control the prices.

Don't buy and sell players to win the World Series.

Don't act on it directly. It is your hologram you create.

It is ridiculous to pay money for what you create.

Instead, use Dark Depth Female and do nothing.

It is free, ladies and gentlemen.

-Certainly «Genji Monogatari / The Tale of Genji» is a classic. Nevertheless, it is not a history yet. In a modern Japan with Play Station and Manga, you can see the incessant resurrection of the famous story by Murasaki Shikibu (Lady Murasaki, which means Lady Purple). The video game on the left has nothing to do with the aristocratic life of a seducer prince, though. When I was a child, I thought the same thing. I imagined that «The Tale of Genji» might be a story of samurais who lived in the time of the confrontation between Heike and Genji families. I ignorantly thought that it could be a Genji version of «Heike Monogatari / The Tale of Heike».

Tao Te Ching Chapter 22-6 Not "more"

Today's Tao

More therefore tempted. (Ch.22)

More money. More success. More home runs. More goals. More sugar. More toppings on my ice cream. More romance.

More is always better, right?

Not necessarily. Some people want to lose weight.

Lao Tzu asks you to reduce everything, not just weight.

When we increase our income, achievements or knowledge, we feel successful.

But where does the success take place?

In our hologram!

It is just a catalyst to stimulate us.

More choices, more confusion.

-Junko Miyashita once was one of the most under-rated Japanese actresses because she started her career with films publicly despised. In the film on the right, she plays Abe, Sada (Abe is her family name). She was the famous woman who cut the male urinal organ of her lover. Nagisa Oshima made a film out of her life and Quincy Jones composed a song out of the film.

To sell your dirty items in Tokyo

There are odd people. There are odd businesses, too.
Some people want to use something that other people do not want to use any longer.
That is why we exchange things, sometimes with money.
For something utterly valueless to someone, other people pay a hefty sum of money.
Would you believe that some people pay 50 to 100 dollars for your used underwear. The dirtier, the better.

Some people collect stamps, tin toys, or small figures of soldiers of Napoleonic era.
To them, authenticity is very important.
It is the same to our collectors of your dirty undergarments which have spent days and weeks at the bottom of your backpack.

You need to prove that you are the one who is responsible for the sacred stains. You will be gently asked to pose for a photo session. You don't have to undress completely. You just have to show that the object has been attached to your body.
Luckily or unluckily, boys cannot sell theirs.

However, this is a kind of information you should remember when you are in need of money in Tokyo.
It might be worth convincing your female travel companion to contribute hers to the collectors of the unusual objects.

I haven't finished the article yet, but it will be posted to Asakusa Underground in a few weeks' time when Mon Chi-chi is back from Thailand.
