Tao Te Ching Chapter 81-5 Act for others

Today's Tao

Although he does everything for others, he has more. (Ch.81)

First, who are "the others"?

The others are you.

All the other beings are an extended part of your own self.

The self under your control, Jiko 自己, and the self beyond your control, Tako 他己. (☞See Moonlight and Dewdrops / Dogs and Roosters 80-12)

They are the same hologram.

Therefore, Jiriki 自力/ Self-power, and Tariki 他力/ Other-power are the same. (☞See «Related Articles» below)

These concepts are useful tools to reduce resistance.

Second, what is the act of doing everything for others?

It is that of doing nothing.

Doing nothing is sending Love (=Tao) by accepting all.

This is the true Za-zen 坐禅. This is the true sitting.

You receive Tao's energy through a hologram (=the world, =your life) without resistance by accepting all.

Then, you emit the energy while projecting a hologram.

Everything exists to maintain this cycle.

You live for this cycle. (☞See Eternal cycle 58-5)

Therefore, the most religious act of all is living.

Living is a catalyst, so there is neither better living nor worse living as long as you are emitting Love.

What is happening in your hologram doesn't have the slightest importance.

You are doing nothing no matter what you are doing.

In other words, you are sending love no matter what you are doing.

«Recommended Books 15» What does fight teach you? It teaches you who you are. The way of Samurai is not an object sitting quietly in a museum. It is still alive. I is still evolving. Miyamoto Musashi's «The Book of Five Rings» was written in the seventeenth century. Please compare this classic with Tatsuo Kimura's «Transparent Power», which was written by a Japanese Mathematician working at Tsukuba University in 2008. Aikido and the quest of "the power / Ki" will never cease to impress us. Aikido 合気道 literally means "Tao of synchronized energy".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 64-21 Don't dare

Today's Tao

He doesn't dare to act. (Ch.64)

Do not act.

That is to say, do not intervene in the natural transformation of your hologram.

"But, what can we do? We have to eat and sleep! We've got to go to school or work!", you may say.

If you think so, just do it.

Your thoughts are part of the hologram.

So are your acts.

Whatever you do, you are in fact doing nothing.

Whether you are literally sitting or running around, you are doing Zazen 坐禅 (=so-called "meditation"), which is what Zen Buddhists call "sitting".

You don't have to meditate because life itself is your meditation.

Then, what do we have to do in our life, or our living meditation?

It's easy.

Do nothing.

That is to say, receive and send the maximum amount of Love (=Tao).

Tao answers your question!

☞Do you like sushi? The real simple sushi they serve in a authentic sushi bar in Japan. Not fancy California rolls with avocado inside. What is an uncarved block? A good example is a nigiri sushi ("nigirizushi"). An uncarved block is the state of being as you are. Without exotic sauces. With just plain wasabi and Kikkoman. You enjoy the quality and the freshness of the fish. The young girl in Yasunari Kawabata's «The Dancing girl of Izu» is another good example of being an uncarved block. This low-class dancer behaves with no awareness of class difference. She doesn't even mind running naked out of the huge rocky bath of the open-air hot spring to say hello to the boy student. The "uncarved block" attitude will surely lead you to "Kami nagara no michi", which means "the way like gods". Daisetz Suzuki explains this well in his «Zen and Japanese Culture».

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-12 No increased life

Today's Tao

Increasing life is called ill omen. (Ch.55)

More knowledge.

More money.

More meditation.

More Satori.

Lao Tzu says:

"Reduce and reduce".

Don't try to add anything to life, which is your hologram.

The holograms are catalysts.

The more catalysts you have, the more confused you may get.

That's why Zen masters say:

"Just sit".

But, watch out.

Master Dogen says:

"Sitting is not just sitting".

If you meditate for the peace of your mind, it is not true Za-zen, he explains.

(Zazenshin 坐禅箴, «Shobogenzo»)

If you see any increase in your life, it is "ill omen", knowledge and meditation included.

Tao answers your question!

☞Komako is an onsen (hot spa resort) geisha in «Snow Country». Yasunari Kawabata, a Nobel prize winner, wrote the masterpiece in bits and pieces. The book «Snow Country» was first published in 1937. An antithesis of the beauty incarnated in Komako the onsen geisa could be found in Kafu Nagai's «Geisha in Rivalry». You can read about the business pragmatism of a geisha's life. Kafu Nagai depicted his own beauty embodied in a woman of a despised profession in «A Strange Tale from East of the River», coincidentally published in 1937.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 44-2 Body or money

Today's Tao

Body or money, which is more? (Ch.44)

Can you say "Hello" to your illness?

Can you say "Welcome" to your financial problem?

You want to fight against them, right?

No. If you do so, you are not courageous.

If you are truly courageous, you must have the guts to accept them as they are no matter how difficult it is.

Don't fight against your illness.

Just love your financial problem.

Health and money are part of your hologram.

You project them.

So, all you have to do is to do nothing.

Don't be attached to health or money.

Then, your hologram will transform itself.

☞Life is the Zazen. Living is the meditation. Do you need any particular music for that? Nevertheless, it does not stop us from listening to the music of the Shakuhachi flute. Much better if we can enjoy it and relax thanks to the simple but profound tunes of the piece of bamboo refined by a master-maker and played by a creative artist no matter what nationality they have. Jazzy or authentic? Is it important?
