Tao Te Ching Chapter 81-6 Richer detachment
Today's Tao
Although he gives everything to others, he is richer. (Ch.81)
What is being rich?
The richest man is the one who can detach himself from all.
Don't be attached to wealth or prestige.
Don't be attached to an object or an idea.
Don't be attached to your life.
Don't be attached to individuality or your own self.
Mu ga 無我. Self doesn't exist. Or, nothingness is your true "self". (☞See Tao Te Ching / Chapter 7 / No Self)
Since the so-called "self" is part of a hologram, there is neither before-life nor after-life. (☞See Man's self 77-7 and After life / Task successfully accomplished 77-11 ☞As for "former life", see End of life 74-1)
An individual and independent soul does not exist. (☞See Out-Tao [Heresy] Seniya / Gedo Senni / Settled 80-9)
If you believe it does, you are too attached to the concept of individuality.
Don't think that your soul will go back to Tao after your life.
You have never left Tao in the first place.
You are always one with Tao. (☞See Tao by Matsumoto / One with Tao)
No life. No end of life. 不生不滅 [fusho fumetsu]. (☞See Live eternally 59-8)

Lao Tzu answers your question!
☞«Recommended Books 16» "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence." The more difficult to pronounce the mantra is, the more sacred. One can laugh at exoticism, but is he able to show you the way? The way how you can overcome the fancy costumes? If the seemingly greener grass fascinates you, the only solution might be going over the fence into the other side and discovering that the grass has the same color. If a Japanese boy believes that Major League Baseball (or Premier League football) is definitely "greener" than the baseball (or football) his countrymen play, he's gotta go there and beat some hitting records (or play better than George Best). Until then, the kid will be trapped in a strange mixture of complacency and self-negation, saying to his fellow citizens: "You don't know what it really is. What we have is false. Look over there. They have got something authentic". Kafu Nagai needed to go to America to make enough money to see France. The money he had earned was barely enough to let the spoiled Japanese twenty-something hang around in France for just ten months. Did he find that the grass was the same green wherever one went? It seems that in his mind the grass still remained greener somewhere but he was not able to be there. To fill the gap between what he had and what he wished to have, he created his "strange" but adorable world in the life of a woman who practiced a libidinous profession illegally on the other side of the River Sumida.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 81-3 Not knowledgeable
Today's Tao
One who knows is not knowledgeable.
In Chapter 1, Lao Tzu says:
"If you can talk about Tao, that Tao is not Tao itself."
(☞See Words are not good enough 1-1)
Talking, words, and knowledge.
Lao Tzu asks you to reduce them.
Knowledge, thoughts, feelings, and even the act of talking are part of a hologram.
They do not belong to you.
They just come from somewhere, stimulate Tao, and leave.
In Zen Buddhism, they express it as:
"是什麼物恁麼来
[ze inmo butsu inmo rai]
Where on earth did this «what on earth» thing come from?"
(☞See By itself 51-7)
We are a radio receiver.
Knowledge is a song transmitted via radio waves. (☞See Radio and knowing 71-2)
Don't be attached to knowledge and other parts of a hologram.
But don't despise them, either, because it is a precious manifestation of Tao, which is true You.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 79-3 Contract without payment
Today's Tao
That's why the sage takes the contract, but doesn't ask the person to pay. (Ch.79)
In Today's Tao sentence, "the contract" symbolizes the feelings and thoughts, particularly desire, in a hologram.
"The payment", the fulfillment of them.
Let's make a few things clear.
1. Your feelings and thoughts do not belong to you.
2. They are attached to the hologram.
3. You project the hologram, but don't control it. (☞See Inmo and No mind 49-10)
Now, we are ready to discuss desire.
Desire doesn't belong to you, so you don't have to feel ashamed whatever your desire is.
You should not judge.
Nevertheless, acting directly to fulfill the desire is another thing.
It is worse if you lament the failure of the fulfillment or hold a grudge.
It creates the mental short circuit and blocks the natural flow of Tao. (☞See Brambles 30-3)

Tao Te Ching Chapter 77-10 Attachment
Today's Tao
Therefore, although something is done, the sage doesn't rely on it. (Ch.77)
Attachment.
We all know that we have to avoid any form of attachment if we practice Tao or Zen.
Here, Lao Tzu repeats what he has told us in Tao Te Ching / Chapter 2 / Do not judge.
Don't "rely on" anything in your hologram.
Don't be attached to anything, right?
Why, though?
Because it is a catalyst.
"What do you mean by 'a catalyst'?", some might want to ask.
If you don't like the expression "catalyst", you may call it a text book.
Life and the world is your text book.
It teaches you by raising you higher.
It makes you learn by pushing you lower.
What do we have to learn, then?
Well, your hologram teaches you just one thing.
Send Love by accepting all.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 64-13 Don't stick
Today's Tao
He doesn't stick to anything, so he doesn't lose anything. (Ch.64)
In Chapter 29 and this Chapter 64, Lao Tzu says:
"If you stick to it, you will lose it".
(☞See If you stick to it 29-4 and Stick and Lose 64-11)
Why do you "lose" something if you are attached to it?
Because it is fundamentally against the function of a hologram, which we sometimes call the world, life, or self.
The objective of a hologram is to stimulate Tao's energy to flow.
That's why constant change is very important.
If you are attached to something, you are refusing the change and blocking the natural flow of Tao.
Did you get it?
All right.
Then, let's go a step farther.
Can you really stick to something if you don't possess your own self?
No, you can't, right?
Attachment is also part of your hologram, Inmo butsu 什麼物 the what-on-earth thing.
We don't know where it has come from. (是什麼物恁麼来 [ze inmo butsu inmo rai])
If you don't have anything from the beginning, you cannot lose anything.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 56-14 Debase it?
Today's Tao
You cannot debase it. (Ch.56)
Tao is beyond human values.
Therefore, "You cannot ennoble it. You cannot debase it".
Don't worship Tao.
Don't worship yourself, either.
But at the same time, don't despise Tao.
Don't despise yourself, either.
I have to make it clear that the word "hologram" is not a pejorative at all.
Please don't say: "The world is just a hologram. Let's ignore it".
Your precious Self is part of your perfect holographic world although your own self is not true You.
Get it?
Accept the world, but don't be attached to it.
Accept your own self, but don't be attached to it.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 55-5 Soft sinew
Today's Tao
His bones are weak, his sinews are soft, and his hold is tight. (Ch.55)
Do you want to hold Tao tightly?
Holding something tightly and sticking to it is not exactly a good idea, though.
Well, if you still want to do it, be weak and soft like a baby.
You cannot hold Tao. Let's make it clear about this.
Nevertheless, being soft and and weak is an effective way to remember that you are one with Tao.
Soften your own self.
Weaken your strong ego.
Minimize the intervention by your own self, which is part of the hologram.
Why don't we say "My own self does not belong to me." once and for all?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 51-12 Dark Depth Attainment
Today's Tao
It is called the attainment of Dark Depth. (Ch.51)
It is called Dark Depth Attainment.
Let's review Dark Depth Attainment.
1. You give birth to the world, which is your hologram. But you do not possess it.
2. Let it work by itself. Don't be attached to its outcome.
3. Remember that you are Tao. Nevertheless, do not dare try to control your hologram.
A useful tip.
To attain Dark Depth, compose your English sentence, always using "one" as its subject, instead of "he", "she", "you", or "I".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 51-10 Don't rely
Today's Tao
Let it work, but don't rely on it. (Ch.51)
Leave the world alone.
The world is your hologram.
In fact, it is working as you like.
Don't rely on your hologram.
It will not give you any preferential treatment.
Don't be attached to it.
"I hate this world because it doesn't treat me right."
Well, why don't we stop using "I, my, me, mine".
Because Self is an illusion.
It only exists in your hologram.
Let's use the word "one" instead.
This is a nice approach to accept No Self 無我 [mu ga / wu-wo] in Zen.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 50-5 Thick of life
Today's Tao
Why is it so? Because they live the thick of life. (Ch.50)
Most people are obsessed with either living or the end of it.
Or, they think life is a constant suffering.
Why is it so?
Because they are too attached to life. They are stuck in their hologram.

Today's Tao
Thus, you can last long. (Ch.44)
True You are Tao.
Therefore, you are eternal.
In Buddhism, we call this «Fusho fumetsu / 不生不滅».
No life no vanishing. (No life. No end of life.)
Dogen says:
"Future is past and present".
(Juki 授記, «Shobogenzo»)
Life is a form of a hologram.
Vanishing is a form of a hologram, too.
They are part of the wheel of manifestation 法輪 [horin].

Tao Te Ching Chapter 44-6 Contentment
Today's Tao
Know contentment, and you will never be humiliated. (Ch.44)
In Buddhism, they talk about "Shoyoku chisoku 少欲知足".
It can be translated as "Desire little and know contentment".
Probably, this is one of the most misunderstood concepts in Buddhism.
Why misunderstood?
We can find a key to answer the question in Tao Te Ching:
Diminish self and reduce desire. (Ch.19)
The key is Self.
Desire is nothing wrong.
The attachment to so-called Self that judges your desire and the rest is the source of the problem.
Holograms, including self, desire, and humiliation, are catalysts to stimulate Tao, which is true You.
Just accept them.
Don't fight to suppress any.
[Note]
In the photo above, it is written: 吾唯足知. 吾唯足るを知る。"I just know contentment."
The square part of the four kanji / Chinese characters 口 symbolizes a mouth. The part is shared by all the four characters.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 44-4 "Love" too much?
Today's Tao
That's why, if you love too much, surely you lose a lot. (Ch.44)
"Love" here signifies an obsessive attachment.
Attention!
Kanji / Chinese character 愛 [ai] can be used to express both love and attachment.
In this context it does not mean "love" in the English sense.
Don't be attached to anything.
Attachment creates resistance.
The desire to retain something blocks the natural flow of Tao.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 44-3 Gain or loss
Today's Tao
Gain or loss, which is more harmful? (Ch.44)
Don't be attached to result.
"When the Attainment peaks, it is the same as the beginning."
(«Chuang Tzu», 12-8)
Chuang Tzu teaches us that gain leads you to loss and loss leads you to gain.
It is exactly like Yin and Yang.
Yin, the shadow, leads you to Yang, the light, and vice versa.
It is exactly like the head and the tail of a coin.
Gain and loss are the two sides of the same thing.
They exist as a catalyst in order to stimulate you.
If you know it, everything is easy.
Whether you gain or lose something, you react the same way.

If you are truly courageous, you must have the guts to accept them as they are no matter how difficult it is.
Don't fight against your illness.
Just love your financial problem.
Health and money are part of your hologram.
You project them.
So, all you have to do is to do nothing.
Don't be attached to health or money.
Then, your hologram will transform itself.

Tao answers your question!
☞Life is the Zazen. Living is the meditation. Do you need any particular music for that? Nevertheless, it does not stop us from listening to the music of the Shakuhachi flute. Much better if we can enjoy it and relax thanks to the simple but profound tunes of the piece of bamboo refined by a master-maker and played by a creative artist no matter what nationality they have. Jazzy or authentic? Is it important?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 44-1 Body or name
Today's Tao
Name or body, which is more familiar? (Ch.44)
A: "Master Bonbon, I wanna be famous. Will you help me?"
B: "Meditate for sixty years, and you will be famous."
A: "Master Bonbon, I wanna have a perfect body."
B: "Donate us your annual salary, and I will send you to the best cosmetic surgeon's clinic."
Name or body.
Fame or silicon.
Which is more familiar to you?
Which is more important to Tao?
The answer is:
"Neither. You should not be attached to either".
What others think about you and what you think about your own self are the same.
What you think and what your body looks like are the same.
All of them are part of your hologram.
No attachment to your reputation or appearance.

Tao answers your question!
☞A river is a metaphor of life. We want to live like a river. Maybe, not. We are afraid of living like a river. Or worse, we are afraid of discovering life is like a river. A river has got rhythm. Ups and downs. Bends and straights. So does the ocean. I wonder why people less often say life is like the ocean. Probably because we are afraid of admitting that all of us will go back there one day.

Lao Tzu doesn't care about accomplish something.
Of course, he doesn't stop you from doing it.

Surely, it creates your attachment to the world.
