Tao Te Ching Chapter 74-4 Reincarnation

Today's Tao

There are always those who are in charge of ending life, and they end their life. (Ch.74)

What is reincarnation?

It is the circulation of Tao's energy with the constant emission of holograms.

Our own self is part of a hologram.

There is no such a thing as life.

So, there is no such a thing as the end of life.

Life, its end, and Self are all just names.

That's why Lao Tzu says in the very first chapter of Tao Te Ching:

"If you can name something, the word does not stand for what it really is."

(☞See A name can't 1-2)

Time is just a concept.

That's why Zen Master Dogen says:

"A pine tree is time. A bamboo tree is time."

(Uji 有時, «Shobogenzo»)

The beginning and the end take place simultaneously.

[Note]
Kitaro Nishida 西田幾多郎 said: "(One can find his true Self) by eliminating your false self. In Christianity, it is called reincarnation. In Buddhism, it is called Kensho 見性, seeing into one's nature" («A Study of the Good / Zen no Kenkyu 善の研究», which is also called «An Inquiry into the Good»@Amazon ☞See Goodness 49-5)

☞The idea of reincarnation fascinated this "extraordinary" Japanese novelist. Yukio Mishima finished the forth and last novel of the series «Sea of Fertility» before he committed seppuku. The soul of the hero in the series is reincarnated three times, but the forth reincarnation does not take place although the person himself desperately tries to believe that he is the reincarnated one. In the 1st book «Spring Snow» the hero is born as an aristocrat. In the 2nd, «Runaway Horses» he is reincarnated as a modern Samurai swordsman. In the 3rd, «The Temple of Dawn», as a Thai princess. In the 4th, «The Decay of the Angel», the hero marries an ugly woman who believes that her beauty is a threat to the society.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 74-2 Don't terrify them

Today's Tao

How can you terrify them by ending their life? (Ch.74)

Reincarnation is the creation and re-creation of a hologram.

It is not the story of a child in an exotic country who speaks about his former life in the language of the exotic country, not in the language he was supposed to be using while living the former life.

Tao is the exchange of the energy.

Every time the exchange takes place, Tao creates a hologram as a catalyst.

The end of life is the end of one cycle of this process.

Another one begins simultaneously.

Life is a catalyst, that is to say, an illusion.

That's why they say in Zen Buddhism:

"不生 不滅

[fusho fumetsu]

No life. No end of life".

Do we have to be afraid of the end of a holographic catalyst?

People in the world are not terrified at all by the end of a hologram/life, Lao Tzu says.

Of course not because they are just holographic characters in your catalytic movie.

☞Reincarnation. Rin-ne Ten-sho 輪廻転生. One of the most successful modern novelists in Japan, Yukio Mishima 三島由紀夫 tacked the subject in the series of «Sea of Fertility / Hojo no Umi 豊饒の海». At the very end of the forth and last novel «The Decay of the Angel / Ten nin go sui 天人五衰», the woman who has been the heroine in the first book «Spring Snow / Haru no Yuki 春の雪» answers to the question of reincarnation. It is worth reading how she explains it if you are interested in this intriguing concept.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 74-1 End of Life

Today's Tao

People are not afraid of the end of life. (Ch.74)

One must not be afraid of the end of life.

Let's talk about reincarnation in this chapter.

First, I want you to forget about the stories of a boy or a girl born in India or China who remembers what he or she was doing in France or Germany a few decades ago.

Like miracle, reincarnation is everyday-life.

Reincarnation is happening right here and right now, constantly, without interruption.

Otherwise, we wouldn't exist.

Tao is creating and re-creating a hologram every moment.

The moment a hologram ends, another begins.

This is reincarnation.

What is life, then?

Life, as well as Self, is only a name you give to a part of a hologram, which is an illusion.

If life does not exist, how can the end of it exist?

☞"RIN-NE 輪廻" is the Japanese word for reincarnation. Rumiko Takahashi, one of the most successful cartoon creators in Japan, has been treating this subject repeatedly. Please look at the first Kanji / Chinese character of the expression. Rin 輪 is the same kanji for "Tenborin 転法輪", which means "turning the wheel of manifestation". Rin 輪 signifies a wheel. Ne 廻, to turn. The expression itself probably knows better than the Japanese who use it. Reincarnation is turning the wheel of Tao.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 63-8 Complicated in Easy

Today's Tao

Complicated things in the world must be created in the easy. (Ch.63)

Let's replace the expression "in the world" with "in your hologram" as we always do when we see it.

Seemingly complicated things in your hologram are the manifestation of the simplest thing called Tao.

They are holograms and catalysts created in Tao in order to stimulate the circulation of its energy.

Tao is the most fundamental of all.

So, it is the simplest and easiest.

Then, why do many people say Zen and Tao are complicated and difficult to understand?

Because they cannot abandon the concept of Self.

If it's your case, let me ask you a question?

Have you ever seen the quantum physical limit of your own self?

Self is a myth.

Not Tao nor Zen.

☞Reincarnation has been fascinating many artists. Yukio Mishima, probably the best known modern Japanese novelist, had tackled the subject just before he committed a well monitored spectacle of the traditional Japanese ritual. This «The Decay of the Angel / Tennin gosui » is the last of the four book series: «The Sea of Fertility». Mishima demonstrates his idea about reincarnation in the dialogue between a man and a Buddhist nun at the end of the novel. Rumiko Takahashi, one of the wealthiest Japanese cartoonists and the creator of «Urusei yatsura» and «Maison Ikkoku», chose the very subject as the title of a series. «Rin ne» means reincarnation in Japanese. But Zen and Tao's interpretation of reincarnation is not exactly the same as theirs. The kanji / Chinese characters Rin-ne 輪廻 literally signify: "A wheel turns".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 49-5 Goodness

Today's Tao

I attain goodness. (Ch.49)

What is goodness?

Let's ask again the author of "A Study of the Good", Kitaro Nishida.

He answers:

"It is to find out the true Self".

Don't we ask him how, do we?

His answer is:

"By eliminating your false self."

In Christianity, it is called reincarnation.

In Buddhism, it is called Kensho 見性, seeing into one's nature, says Nishida.

How can we eliminate our false self?

Simple.

You do nothing.

Because you don't have the false self from the beginning.

It is just part of your hologram.

(Book III, Chapter XIII, A perfectly good deed)

Tao Te Ching Chapter 42-4 Birth of everything

Today's Tao

Three gives birth to everything. (Ch.42)

Chuang Tzu talks about it as follows:

"There are divisions in the One not yet formed.

Without intermission, without in-between space.

This is called Life.

The One flows and gives birth to things.

Things are completed and have discerning lines.

This is called Form."

(«Chuang Tzu» 12 - 8)

The dynamic exchange of the energy in Tao creates a hologram as a catalyst to provoke another emission of energy.

This is your life and self, and all the objects in your world.

After every cycle, you reincarnate.

Attention!

There is no time in Tao.

So, every step takes place simultaneously.

-We need our soul food once in a while. When we are down, sometimes eating our soul food is the only solution to cheer us up. The problem is that the food is not all the time available especially when you live away from home. How can you order your favorite clam chowder in Zimbabwe? In my case, my soul food is miso ramen. These days, it is not too difficult to find miso and ramen. Nevertheless, mixing miso and ramen does not exactly make a nice dish of miso ramen. You know what I am talking about if you have ever lived in Japan. Then, what can I do? I look to Kurosawa's «Seven Samurai» for help. It is not food, but is my soul film. Besides, you can find this DVD in any country where movie aficionados are allowed to live.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 41-1 Tao's move

Today's Tao

Returning is Tao's move. (Ch.41)

Why are we not able to give a name to Tao?

Because Tao is not an object.

Tao is a movement.

Tao's movement is Tao. ("the movement of the movement" is the movement?)

The movement of nothingness is Tao.

What kind of movement is it?

It is a constant returning.

When you receive Tao, Tao returns to Tao.

When you emit Tao, Tao returns to Tao.

Zen masters' circle and Yin Yang circle express it.

Returning is rebirth.

This is the reincarnation without time.

-You may be interested in reading Mishima's works, but hesitate to do so because of his image of being an ultra right-winger. In these two books, he hardly talks about his nationalist dogma. Instead, he tells us about women and their passion of love. They are an ideal entrance gate to Mishima's literature. Especially, «The Sound of Waves» has been incarnated by legendary Japanese actresses; notably, Sayuri Yoshinaga and Momoe Yamaguchi. It is quite exceptional among Yukio Mishima's novels that the audience enjoy the story of the movie and the beauty of the actress without knowing the name of the author who wrote its original. Some are pleasantly surprised when they discover the name later on.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 39-6 Hologram's birth

Today's Tao

Everything attained One and was born. (Ch.39)

This is one of the key sentences in Tao Te Ching.

Step 1 There is nothing. It is Tao the fundamental energy.

Step 2 A thing before its birth (=Bumo misho izen) gets Tao.

Step 3 The thing will be projected, be born, and become a hologram and catalyst.

Step 4 The hologram stimulates Tao the energy.

Step 5 Go back to the first step. There is nothing.

Step 6 More holograms will be created.

Tao emits Tao. The energy emits more energy. Nothing emits nothing. You emits you. They are saying the same thing.

This cycle is the reincarnation, the prayer wheel, the wheel of manifestation 法輪 [horin] or the Yin Yang circle.

«Advice»
Don't mix the element of "self" with the idea of the Tao/hologram cycle before you fully accept it. Your own self does not create holograms, and is projected along with the rest of the world.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 35-2 No harm

Today's Tao

It goes by without harm. (Ch.35)

What's the difference between good and harm?

None.

Judgement exists only in your mind.

Whether you think it is harmful or not, Tao keeps on functioning.

It keeps on recreating itself.

The world of holograms goes around.

It is like toppings on the ice cream.

Whether you like the toppings or not, they don't stop your ice cream from melting.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 34-4 Love = Tao

Today's Tao

Tao loves and raises everything, but doesn't try to be its master. (Ch.34)

Love is Tao. Love and Tao are two names for the same energy.

It creates itself constantly.

"Everything" in the world is a hologram and catalyst.

Tao / Love energy "raises" it to stimulate itself for its constant recreation.

This is the reincarnation.

Tao doesn't control any. It is just the source.

Love doesn't control any. We just emit Love.

You don't try to be a master because true You are Love itself, and Tao itself.

Tao = Love = true You

Reincarnation = the cycle of Yin and Yang = Prayer wheel

Tao Te Ching Chapter 33-8 Live after life

Today's Tao

Living after his life is a long life. (Ch.33)

What we call "life" is part of a hologram.

What we call "self" is part of a hologram, too.

Tao projects one hologram after another every moment.

Watch out! One's life is not one hologram.

It is his interpretation of a voluminous set of holograms.

It is like a pack of playing cards.

Then, we call the pack Life or Self.

Tao has an unlimited supply of those cards called holograms.

Every moment is an after-life.

We are reincarnating ourselves every moment.

Isn't it a long life?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 27-12 Profound truth

Today's Tao

This is called the profound truth. (Ch.27)

Yin and Yang. Satori and Mayoi, which means being lost. Birth and reincarnation.

These paired concepts have confused us, the occidentals and the orientals alike, for hundreds of years.

They are the results of our desperate attempts to convey the concept of the cycle between Tao and hologram. This is the prayer wheel.

Thanks to the invention of holography, we can comprehend it without any metaphors.

But, be careful.

Don't conceptualize it.

That makes it less easy to accept that Tao receives Tao through holograms.

Dogen quoted the words of Nangaku Ejo (Nan-yueh Huai-jang):

"I don't say that practice and the attainment of Satori do not exist, but we had better not tarnish them by meddling with them."修証不無。染汚即不得。(jishozanmai 自証三昧, «Shobogenzo»)

-When a Japanese girl hears the word "princess" and is asked to draw a picture of her, almost certainly she creates an image of a Snow White. I personally do not know any Japanese married woman who made a vow of their eternal love solely in kimonos without changing her outfit and putting on a white Western-style wedding dress. Nowadays, blonde Japanese girls are getting more and more banal.
