Tao Te Ching Chapter 81-2 Good one

Today's Tao

A good one doesn't talk. One who talks is not good. (Ch.81)

The good one is Tao.

Tao doesn't talk because conversations only take place in a hologram.

Tao is not a hologram.

A hologram is a manifestation of Tao.

What is "good", and what is "evil"?

Jodo / Pure Land Buddhists Honen 法然 and Shinran 親鸞 told us «The Doctrine of Evil Persons as the Object of Salvation / Akunin shoki setsu 悪人正機説».

In Buddhism, Shoki 正機 signifies "the people qualified for salvation".

Sho 正, like the Sho of «Shobogenzo 正法眼蔵», means "authentic".

This Ki 機 here is not the same as Ki 気 of energy.

This Ki 機 means "a mechanism".

The two masters were telling us:

"Evil people are part of the authentic mechanism".

This mechanism is Shin 心, the Tao/hologram mechanism that stimulates us to emit more Love (=Tao).

There is neither good nor evil in Tao.

As Japanese philosopher Kitaro Nishida explains in his «A Study of Good», being good is learning that true You are Tao. (☞See No favoritism 79-4)

You don't need to judge any.

«Recommended Books 12» Kitaro Nishida and Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki were good friends. They were friends from high school. They met each other at Ishikawa-ken Senmon Gakko. The school later changed its name to Dai 4 Koto Gakko, which literally means "the forth high school". It was one of the most prestige high schools in Japan before WW2. The school was closed in 1950. Its tradition was spiritually inherited by Kanazawa University. Nishida was part of the founding members of Koa Kogyo University, now called Chiba Institute of Technology. «An Inquiry into the good» on the left is the same book as «A Study of Good». The book shines as the beacon of modern Japanese philosophy. Kitaro Nishida was an excellent thinker and black sheep where many people say "A good one doesn't 'think'. One who 'thinks' is not good".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 80-13 Life without intervention

Today's Tao

But they get old and end their life without coming and going between their countries. (Ch.80)

"Without coming and going" is a key (=Kanreisu) to understand how holograms work.

It suggests "no intervention", "no interference".

Why is Lao Tzu against the interference to a hologram?

A dewdrop reflecting the moonlight. (☞See Dogs and Roosters 80-12)

This is a beautiful metaphor of the Tao/hologram mechanism, Shin 心.

The moonlight is Tao, which is true You.

The whole world is a dewdrop reflecting the moonlight, which is a hologram.

Without the modern concept of a hologram, Zen Buddhists needed to invent the expression "Eye storage / 眼蔵 [genzo]".

In terms of our interpretation of space, there is only one hologram, which includes all the beings, objects and intangible information such as thoughts alike.

In terms of our interpretation of time, there are a myriad of holograms, which are being created simultaneously.

"Life" is a name given to one group of them. (☞See Out-Tao (Heresy) Seniya / Gedo Senni / Settled 80-9)

"Life without coming and going" implies that there is no causation between holograms or dewdrops.

No causation, therefore no intervention. It is no use.

The unique causation is 複 [fuku] / return, which is to keep Tao's energy cycling and recycling.

A hologram stimulates Tao.

Tao gives birth to a hologram.

In conclusion, there is only the receiving and giving of Love, which is also called Tao.

This receiving and giving of Tao's energy takes place on your face. (☞See Face Transmission / Menju / Beauty 80-8)

That's why we don't have our face in the hologram.

Have you ever seen your face directly?

Lao Tzu answers your question!

«Recommended Books 10» Which is more dangerous, nature or human beings? To many Japanese, the question doesn't make sense because they think human beings are part of nature. The word "artificial" is not an antonym of "natural". The outside world is filled with plenty of Kami, gods, which may help and protect us, but sometimes in a whimsical way destroy us, destroy us completely. Please read Masuji Ibuse's short story «Salamander» first. The work is considered a masterpiece in Japan, and many students read it at school. Into a cave under the stream, a frog was swept. The salamander blocked the entrance of the cave with his body. The salamander had been captured there because his body was too big to get away. Now he had a "friend". If you have some time, before you go straight to «Black Rain», please read his «Castaways». It is about a young fisherman cast away by a typhoon and rescued by an American boat when it was illegal to leave Japan. Their docile acceptance of what it is and what it is happening will certainly give you another flavor when you read «Black Rain». Although Shohei Imamura's film is excellent, the end of the story is not precisely the same. It is worth reading the novel. Which after-taste do you prefer?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 80-3 Don't travel

Today's Tao

Make the people respect life, and don't let them travel far. (Ch.80)

Don't try to experience a so-called "altered state".

Don't try to reach Satori the enlightenment.

Don't "travel" for it.

Respect your life.

It is a precious hologram, which is the question and the answer at the same time.

It is Koan and Satori simultaneously.

Though the hologram is an illusion, it is the only "tangible" medium through which you can receive Tao's energy.

Your own self is part of the hologram.

So is the world.

The hologram receives the energy through itself.

This is the Tao/hologram mechanism, Shin 心.

Your nirvana / nirvāṇa / Nehan 涅槃 is right here right now.

Don't try to look for it somewhere else.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 79-4 No favoritism

Today's Tao

Heaven's Tao has no favoritism. It is always on the side of a good person. (Ch.79)

"Heaven" means your hologram as the word "sky" does.

So, Heaven's Tao signifies Tao's energy inside all the beings in the hologram.

In other words, it is Hossho 法性, the nature of manifestation. (☞See Hossho stays low 76-9)

Tao does not judge.

It seems that the limited capacity of human beings judge.

Tao's energy inside your hologram has no favoritism.

There is neither good nor bad in Tao.

Then, what does "a good person" mean?

"A good person" means you.

True You are Tao.

Therefore, only you can sustain the Tao/hologram mechanism, Shin 心.

Japanese philosopher Kitaro Nishida 西田幾多郎 (1870 - 1945) says:

"Practically speaking, we have only one true Good, which is to find out the true Self. That's all."

(translated by Naoto Matsumoto; Book III, Chapter 13, The Perfect Good Action, «A Study of the Good 善の研究» ☞See A study of the Good 49-3 and Goodness 49-5)

[Note]
What is the true Self?
"It is the true body of the cosmos", Nishida answers. (Ditto)
The true body of the cosmos is the Tao/hologram mechanism, Shin 心.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 78-10 Contradiction

Today's Tao

Right words sound contradictory. (Ch.78)

Tao's mechanism of return creates contradiction.

Lao Tzu says here that, if the words do not sound contradictory, they are not right.

They are artificial and superficial.

Let's review Lao Tzu's maxims in this chapter, which sound contradictory.

1. Be as soft and weak as water in order to activate Dark Depth Female. (☞See Water summary 78-1)

2. When you are lost in Mayoi, you are as hard as ice; when you are one with Tao, you are as soft as water. (☞See Water's attack 78-2)

3. A hologram doesn't change. One hologram is the whole world in each moment.
Caution! Each independent being is not one independent hologram. It is part of one hologram along with the other beings, including your own self. It is like a frame in a movie. (☞See No change 78-3)

4. Everyone in the world is you. (☞See Everyone = You 78-6)

5. No matter what we are doing, we are doing nothing, which means "sending Love (=Tao's energy)". (☞See No one acts 78-7)

6. No state. No evil. Don't criticize. Don't judge. (☞See State filth 78-8)

7. No superstitions. No bad omens. They are just catalysts.

8. Lao Tzu thinks it is ridiculous to resist. No resistance.

See? Right words sound contradictory, don't they?

Tao Te Ching Chapter 78-9 Bad omens

Today's Tao

"Those who accept the bad omen of the country are called the king of the world under the sky." (Ch.78)

A: "«Don't whistle inside the house! Evil spirits will come in!»

«Oh, my goodness. You must move your TV set. It is blocking the way of the dragon.»

«This is a bad omen. This IS a bad omen. This is the sign. This is the end of the world.»

Master Bonbon, tell us honestly. Do you believe in these?"

B: "Of course, I do. Superstitions and bad omens are the most effective ways to scare people. Customer scare service is the most profitable division in our organization."

Superstitions and bad omens are like so-called miracle.

Zen Master Dogen expresses it this way:

"Miracle is the tea and rice of a Buddhist". (☞See Miracle rule 65-6)

That is to say, our everyday life is miracle.

Every hologram is part of the miracle.

In Zen Buddhism, the miracle is called Shin 心, which is often translated as heart or mind.

Shin 心, the heart, is the Tao/hologram mechanism, where everything belongs, including superstitions and bad omens.

You don't have to be scared of superstitions and bad omens.

They exist to ask you for the same thing as the others do:

"Send Love (=Tao's energy)".

Tao Te Ching Chapter 77-3 Raise Hossho?

Today's Tao

It raises a low one. (Ch.77)

"A low one" suggests Tao.

So, Tao raises Tao?

That's it.

That's what the famous circle of Zen masters stands for.

If you add the two points of holograms in the middle, here is the Yin Yang circle.

Tao hides itself inside every hologram.

This is called Hossho 法性, the nature of manifestation.

Tao raises Tao hidden in everything.

So, it is natural that the holograms copy the characteristics of Tao's cycle.

You could say that your holographic life exists to teach you how Tao's mechanism works.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 76-7 Strong army, no win

Today's Tao

Hence, if your army is strong, you will never win. (Ch.76)

If your army is "strong", is it easier to accept other people's acts against your will?

Don't you want to use your "strong army" to control the people against you?

That's why Lao Tzu says:

"you will never win".

Zen Buddhists use two key concepts to understand it.

1. 即心是仏。[soku shin ze butsu] The very mechanism is Buddha (=Tao).

2. 一切法一心。[issai ho isshin] All the manifestations are one mechanism.

Therefore, treat the so-called reality, which is a manifestation of Tao, as if it is the real Tao (while knowing that the manifestation and Tao are not exactly the same).

半箇衆生半箇法性。・・・。法性不是衆生。

(法性 Hossho, «Shobogenzo»)

It is not your ego who controls the situation.

Don't be strong.

Your true victory is to keep Tao's mechanism working.

Tao Te Ching Chapter 61-8 By going down

Today's Tao

Therefore, some take it by going down. Others go down and take it. (Ch.61)

Going down is being passive, or receiving Tao's energy through your hologram without resistance.

Some do it on purpose.

Others do it without being aware of it.

The key thing is to know that everyone does it.

This act of sending and receiving Love (=Tao) is Satori.

Zen Master Dogen encourages us by saying:

"Some learn Tao by letting go the mechanism of Tao and the hologram (=your mind, =the world).

Others learn Tao by tackling the mechanism of Tao and the hologram."

これらの心を放下して学道するあり拈挙(ねんこ)して学道するあり

(Shinjingakudo 身心学道, «Shobogenzo»)

Whether you are conscious of it or not, you are in the state of Satori; you are one with Tao.

[Note]
心 [shin]: the Tao/hologram mechanism in Zen Buddhism, sometimes translated as mind or heart. It means the center. Picture the center of the Yin Yang circle. Tao manifests (=projects) itself as a hologram. The hologram stimulates Tao. This is the cycle of the mechanism. (☞See also No heart 49-1)
